Ebaum1saik, I consider myself a movie buff. But when we talk about movies between friends, it doesn't happen that we have a portable dvd player in front of me and 2hrs in front of me, so I don't watch it with them. I don't predict what movies I will talk about, for example "Hey it's Saturday night, we will rent Hancock and talk about it after!" Not really, I just go with the flow. I don't have a determined time to talk about movies with friends & family. I don't expect to be able to watch the movie they wanna talk about while driving or at work. And if they are not really very interested in movies, I won't say "you have to watch Nolan's films and Wright's movies", I'll just say "You loved Scott Pilgrim? It's the same guy that made Shaun of the Dead, maybe sometime you could rent it!" and we talk about something else. Anyway, my two cents to say that I'm tired of people saying this is a crappy list. Everyone's opinion on every list.

Relaxix, you know a way to begin a discuss with someone who doesn't "love" films about those flicks: watch the film together then talk about it. Move watching doesn't have to be by only one person which your post implies. The films don't have to be "great" (whatever you mean by that), but just different to try to get people more interested in different types of films so they begin to love all types of film. When introducing people to the avant-garde I usually show them Kustom Kar Kommandos. I think it's great, but most critics don't usually mention it with respect to Kenneth Anger's great work. And what does it say to someone if you are a film buff, but only talk about mainstream films? I still talk to people about mainstream films, but it helps to open it up a bit so they realize that isn't all film has to offer.

Well, some people - like me - don't mind watching mainstream movies. Sure, I love critics's movies but we don't have to be high pitched cinephiles who thinks only "great" movies should be watched. Mainstream movies are a great way to talk with other people. I don't expect to have a conversation about Lawrence of Arabia or 2001 : A Space Odyssey with a person who doesn't "love" movies. But I expect to be able to talk Avatar, Twilight and Harry Potter with them. Sure, these movies aren't great most of them, but to be able to talk about movies without being picky, this is a great list.

What the guy before me said. I'm going to promise myself right now I'll never complete this list.
