Film-noir top movies
Film noir ('black film') is a branch of the crime/gangster sagas from the 1930s. Strictly speaking, film noir is not a genre, but rather the mood, style or tone of various American films that evolved between the 1940s and 1960s. However, film noir has re-occurred in cyclical form in other years in various neo-noirs. Noirs are usually black and white films with primary moods of melancholy, alienation, bleakness, disillusionment, disenchantment, pessimism, ambiguity, moral corruption, evil, guilt and paranoia. They often feature a cynical, loner hero (anti-hero) and femme fatale, in a seedy big city. — filmsite.org subgenres

Film-Noir was an American movement in the 40's and 50's, American noirs made after this are called neo-Noirs. Noirs made before the 40's are just called Noir Precursors(this term is avoid of Nationality)
(Non-American noirs are, no matter when they were made just Noirs, though their nationality is often put in front of it, such as British Noir, German Noir, Norwegian Noir, etc)
Chinatown is not Film-Noir, but Neo-Noir... it is made after the Noir era as a homage to Noir films....
'Chinatown,' where is that? Am I looking right past it?
It used to be there but imdb removed the film noir tag from it
Where's The Third Man? I find it unbelievable that it's not in the TOP FIFTY film noir list. Wow.
