The Criterion Collection top movies seen by WimS
Since 1984, the Criterion Collection, has been dedicated to gathering the greatest films from around the world and publishing them in editions that offer the highest technical quality and award-winning, original supplements for a wider and wider audience. The foundation of the collection is the work of such masters of cinema as Kurosawa, Fellini, Bergman, Tarkovsky, Hitchcock, and Kubrick. Each film is presented uncut, in its original aspect ratio, as its maker intended it to be seen. To date, more than 150 filmmakers have made it into the collection. — The Criterion Collection

I question the ranking for this list - The Grand Illusion no. 196? Ranking by Spine number would be far more logical for this list, as other users have mentioned. And when are new titles added? I just saw Night Train to Munich and want to check it. :-)
fyi criterion fans, they have a hulu channel now. Ive been watching the Zatoichi movies. Hopefully those get incorporated on the next list.

Much easier to keep track of Criterion releases by spine number -- for one thing, it might help keep all the Painleve and Brakhage shorts together in the list -- and we are missing several newer releases.

The "last batch" of Kurosawa titles are from the Kurosawa Box Set "AK 100" and is an official Criterion Collection release (as opposed to Eclipse, Essential Art House or other Janus Films releases). http://www.criterion.com/boxsets/678-ak-100-25-films-by-akira-kurosawa
