I recently was able to finish my quest to see every film by Federico Fellini in chronological order. I did it over the course of six months at a rate of about one film a week. I was lucky and was able to find a copy of everything pretty easily. I was even able to watch the commercials he directed, which were unfortunately without English subs but I was able to get the drift. The following were his films that I thought were his masterpieces:
8 1/2
La Dolce Vita
La Strada
Amarcord
Nights of Cabiria
Fellini Satyricon
I vitelloni
There were also many other films of his that I enjoyed very much. My least favorite might have been Love in the City, which just had a small sequence directed by him.
I would also like to recommend the following Roberto Rossellini films which all have writing credits by Fellini and I think are all masterpieces as well:
Rome, Open City
Paisan
The Flowers of St. Francis
Europa '51
Maybe someday I will do a similar exercise with Rossellini's films as well.
