What was really compelling about this film is that it avoided all of the partisan political nonsense about the Iraq War and merely used it as a setting in which to explore some interesting characters. It treated soldiers like the human beings in hard situations that they are and not as some evil brute pawns of an unpopular president. I felt like I could enjoy a film about war life in Iraq for once without being preached to by some spoiled armchair observer.
I just finished this one. Despite the hype and all, I really enjoyed it! I'm not disappointed by it's best picture win, although personally my favorite was Up in the Air. I don't know if it was the masterpiece some people were making it out to be, but it was definitely a good, suspenseful film with some great performances.
A good film that has you on the edge your seat with tension. But also a film that unfortunately over-stays its welcome a bit and tends to drift toward familiar film tropes of the harsh realities of war toward the end.
Still, more deserving of the Oscar and BAFTA than Avatar.
It is a really well-made movie. The perfomances especially that of Jeremy Renner are really good. I think that is a movie that is not that great as people say it is. I mean it is a good movie but not a spectacular movie that earned those six Oscars.
Absolutely amazing film. I hear that it's insanely unrealistic, but it's so well-made and the performances are so good that it stands alone as a magnificent film even if it's not a particularly accurate one.
Unbelieveable! People said a lot of things about this film, but how could you possibly say that? Cinematography was outstanding, either you watched a different film or you just said it just to critisize madly.
It's amazing how it won an oscar! it shows for sure how tasteless are the jury and that the academy awards are not serious into art, just plain mainstream and commercial. On the movie : Fake acting and poor cinematography, depicting Iraqi like mad terrorists and white American men as the saviors!

It might be because I watched it in English, which isn't my native tongue, but I didn't find the story quite compelling.

Overrated.
The oscar for best picture should have been for Inglourious Basterds or Precious.

I liked it, but I just wasn't blown by it (no pun intended).
