   I've not yet finished it, though it's very entertaining so far.
   
   One thing:

   The detective could've easily closed the case had he revealed the incident with the killer on that rainy night (with the faeces, eye gash et al), yet didn't because... what, pride? Fear of embarrassment? He evidently wanted to nail him, and one would logically assume that his already poor reputation wouldn't have been sullied further by that little spot of ignominy, as it would've meant he'd single-handedly solved a major double homicide case.
