Actually a really competent little serial killer thriller. Cage is very good, and, surprisingly, so are Hudgens as a prostitute and Cusack as a sociopath. I can't decide whether the casting director is insane or ingenious, but given how well everything gels I guess it must be the latter. The film never aims at any great heights, and accordingly never hits any, but it achieves everything it sets out to do perfectly capably. It might be undeniably formulaic, but the wonderful, Fargo-esque scenery, a great supporting cast that includes Dean Norris (as, who else, a police officer), and some genuinely chilling scenes combine to make this more than worth your time. It's a shame this movie seems to have been mostly ignored, and I hope to see more from Scott Walker in the future. 10 years 7 months ago -

Shaky cam and overly obnoxious music that commands you to feel a certain way ruin the movie. The writing isn't terrible but ultimately suffers from True Crime syndrome where it has to spend too much time on true details to tell an engaging story.
