3rdmans comments are spot on, not sure how anyone could downvote.
A layperson like myself will enjoy this film for its effective simplicity. Despite its stark atmosphere and downtrodden tone there are countless smiles found in the scenes with Martin, relatable moments of sibling struggles, challenges of friendships, suppressed and acted desires, innocence intertwined with guilt, forgivable revenge, all of it supported by a very hip soundtrack. The contradictions are endless and easily enjoyed. A film rich with accessible feeling not to be missed. 9 years 1 month ago -

Anybody familiar with suburban life will probably identify with the undercurrent of seething dissatisfaction underlying the film's tone of aimlessness and ennui. The mundane aesthetic of bland interiors, car lots, empty fields and suburban detritus that Lafleur very capably captured in his previous film, En terrains connus, is often strangely beautiful here in black and white. Combined with some light touches of magic realism, the film achieves a dreamlike state somewhere between hopelessness and transcendence. 9 years 5 months ago -
