MST3K is popular because of the commentary, watching those movies (outside of danger diabolik) is a miserable time.

i do agree with @chemosh6969 regarding the personal lists and updates/duplicates etc. it is inviting disaster.

i'd prefer for iCM to be a curated experience, but it doesn't seem like that's important (or possible) with the staff.

For some, bad movies are fun. That's why MST3K is popular.

If you're not a fan of that sort of stuff, then you feel the same way I do about the majority of stuff on the Brief Encounters list. To me, a bunch of that stuff is similar to things a dad would do with his first video camera, in fact that's what some of them are. I don't see the appeal for that type of stuff but to each their own.

I just think that if we're going to have the top 250 imdb list, at the very least we can have the bottom 100 list.

I'm not sure how they plan on implementing the personal lists, but if it's something where you can give it your own name and add whatever you want to it, which I'd imagine it would be, it would be somewhat difficult to track popular lists.

One way to get around that would be to allow others to link to it. Then you have the issue of updates. What if the person that started it updates it? Does it carry over? That's great until they delete all the movies for some reason.

I'm probably also in the minority because I don't really plan on making any lists. There's enough standard ones I'm trying to finish up before making my own.

Sorry; hit "add" too soon.

You can see why the staff needed their readers to compose the list itself.

The thought that followed is: Doesn't this raise the point that these lists can be added to iCM 2.0 by you and me? And, if proved popular enough, will be added to the "regular" lists through that process?

@ chemosh6969:

I honestly don't see the appeal of the IMDb bottom 100, but we can agree to disagree on that. There's certainly a lot of grousing in the comments sections of almost every "top" list on iCM, so ... whatever.

The other lists are fun, although at least one just seems like a hodgepodge of what is covered on that specific blog. Not quite a "curatorial" experience.

Sad that the Wired list uses a screen grab of Gwyneth Paltrow and Aaron Eckhart to illustrate Possession, since the movie they're supposedly talking about stars Sam Neill and Isabelle Adjani. You can see why the staff needed their readers to compose the list itself.

Finished the deuce list last year and next month I'm going to finish, at the very least, the martial arts and spaghetti westerns lists.

I'm hoping we can get more lists like these.

http://www.ghoulbasement.com/2010/03/list-of-horror-cult-and-exploitation.html

I also agree on trying to find a good documentary list.

chemosh6969: I'd also like to see more cult/martial arts/spaghetti western type related lists.

Cult:
http://www.icheckmovies.com/list/aint+nobodys+blues+but+my+own/
http://www.icheckmovies.com/list/the+new+cult+canon/
http://www.icheckmovies.com/list/the+deuce+top+20/

Martial arts:
http://www.icheckmovies.com/list/martial+arts/

Spaghetti westerns:

While I more or less agree with what chemosh. and Runar are getting at when they say they want "more weird crap" (to paraphrase), I think it's hard for people to wholeheartedly cheer you on when you don't give us examples of specific "cool" lists that would actually bring new titles to the table.

I'm still waiting to stumble on a documentary list I feel is worthy of bringing up here. Haven't found one that satisfies me yet, and I've been looking.

It'd work until things get group voted up/down, similar to the oddballs that show up on the Shorts lists.

I'd be happy with seeing two sections of imdb. The top lists, as we currently have and lists of the bottom movies.

I'd also like to see more cult/martial arts/spaghetti western type related lists. While the newer lists bring in some new movies, they also have many existing ones. Cult lists would add many first timers to this site. Pretty much what Runar said.

We have enough lists with quirky indie crap, lets get some other kinds of crap.

They key would be to make the submission process transparent - a basic vote up /down system would work.

I do that from time to time, but I guess there is plenty of suggestion for the guys to pick from. It's not that it is so important to me either as the site is good anyway. Just saying that it would be nice to see some more lists that reflects a bit of a different taste.

I'm sure Erik and Piet would add more "cool" lists if you could provide them with specific lists (and sources).

More lists for cult favorites, horror, b-movies, exploitation, splatter, action and so on. Nothing wrong with all this critically acclaimed lists – just a bit boring in my opinion. It's just so many with "Citizen Kane" and "Cassablanca" on now.

What about adding some cool lists soon? It's just so many boring film snob lists here already.
Thanks anyway for the update!

Ooh, a Golden Globes would be nice. I'm more than happy with these for the time being though.
