6. Guillaume Evin's The 101 Historical Films to See's icon

Guillaume Evin's The 101 Historical Films to See

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. from the french "Les 101 films historiques à voir - De la Guerre du feu à Zero Dark Thirty" and expanded from the 2013 version "L'histoire fait son cinéma en 100 films: de La Guerre du feu à Démineurs". History has always made its cinema. This has been the case since the advent of the latter at the turn of the 20th century. The 7th Art takes hold of a historical phenomenon to restore it (rarely), magnify it or mishandle it (sometimes), revisit it (often), thus taking some liberties with the reality of events. From Prehistory to the war in Iraq, from Cleopatra to Napoleon, from the fall of the Roman Empire to that of the Ancien Régime, certain eras, certain events, certain figures have been brilliantly captured over the decades by the discerning eye of filmmakers from around the world (DeMille, Eisenstein, Kubrick, Visconti, Lean, Kurosawa, Renoir, Annaud, Mankiewicz, Tavernier, Leone, Malle, Spielberg, Malick, Cimino, Coppola, Bertolucci, Melville, Losey, Bigelow... ), while other moments have been purely and simply forgotten if not obscured. From The War of Fire to Zero Dark Thirty, here is an overview of the 101 best historical films, where we meet the intimate and the monumental, the derisory and the grandiose, the austere and the spectacular. Note: The book is divided in the following sections: Prehistory, Antiquity, The Middle Ages, Modern Times and Contemporary Times with subset sections within them. PS: If anyone can get ahold of the book, please send me a pm with the name of the missing movie.

In this show, you were like a real cinema, with a cartoon, some advertisments and B-movies. Althought, the greatest directors of Hollywood were there, in your living room.

In contrast to patients of Obsessive-compulsive disorder, people experiencing OCPD generally perceive their behaviors as correct and desirable. Hoarding is also mentioned as one of several possible criteria for OCPD in the DSM-IV. OCPD is a chronic non-adaptive pattern of extreme perfectionism, preoccupation with neatness and detail, and a requirement or need for control or power over one's environment that causes major suffering and stress, especially in areas of personal relationships. Persons with OCPD are usually known to be inflexible and extremely controlling. They may find it hard to relax, and feel the need to plan out their activities down to the minute. OCPD occurs in about 1% of the general population. It is seen in 3–10% of psychiatric outpatients. It is twice as common in males as females.
  21. Out at Criterion's icon

    Out at Criterion

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. From 1961's groundbreaking Victim to trailblazing modern romances, these are the LGBTQ films out on Criterion. In 1961, Basil Dearden’s Victim became the first mainstream English-language drama to feature a sympathetic homosexual protagonist, played by matinee idol Dirk Bogarde. In 2011, Andrew Haigh’s boy-meets-boy romance Weekend defied expectations to become a crossover art-house hit. The fact that, fifty years after Victim, Weekend is also considered groundbreaking is evidence of how far cinema may still have to go in terms of gay representation. But between these two revelatory films, there have been plenty of other important and entertaining ones made about gay, lesbian, and bisexual people, and several of them are available in the Criterion Collection, including works by trailblazers like Robert Epstein, Derek Jarman, and Gus van Sant. Films listed alphabetically by Criterion's title. At the end are two collections: Pasolini 101 (9 films) and The Signifyin’ Works of Marlon Riggs (7 films) Old Source

  23. Pumpkin Cinema: The Best Movies For Halloween's icon

Pumpkin Cinema: The Best Movies For Halloween

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. Written by Nathaniel Tolle... "People celebrate the magical holiday of Halloween in a wide variety of ways, but most will, at some point, turn off the lights and allow a movie to take the excitement to the next level. Pumpkin Cinema recommends over 100 titles that are guaranteed to make your Halloween fun and frightening! Halloween only comes once a year, so you can't afford to waste precious thrill time on a lousy movie! However, a great horror movie doesn't necessarily translate into a great Halloween flick, and Pumpkin Cinema uses a simple set of guidelines to help you avoid the "boo!" blues: the films included here are fast paced, have essences of autumn (if they aren't set on Halloween itself!), and have a trim run time (under two hours). Avoiding the mean-spirited and cruel movies more typical of horror offerings, Pumpkin Cinema also includes Halloween treats from multiple genres, in addition to horror: comedy, animation, science fiction, silent era, and foreign films, all ranging in popularity from blockbusters to the obscure. The films included are, above all, fun to watch and share with others! " **Missing from IMDB: -Follow That Goblin! (1993)
