Favs/dislikes: 28:0. Paul Verhoeven (born July 18, 1938) is a Dutch film director, screenwriter, and producer who has made movies in both the Netherlands and the United States. Explicitly violent and/or sexual content and social satire are trademarks of both his drama and science fiction films. He is best known for directing the American feature films RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990), Basic Instinct (1992), Starship Troopers (1997), and Hollow Man (2000). Both RoboCop and Total Recall won an Academy Special Achievement Award. In contrast, his film Showgirls (1995) was poorly received and won seven Golden Raspberry Awards, but has become a cult film over time.
2. Real Life Horrors's icon

Real Life Horrors

Favs/dislikes: 28:0. Original IMDb list created by Dr-Faustus.
There can be no fictional film that compares to the atrocities of real life. Some of these atrocities, abuses, injustices and crimes committed have been documented. Unfortunately man has learn't little from his past. Hopefully these films will create awareness and prevention in the future. "Only by acceptance of the past, can you alter it".- T.S. Eliot. This list is dedicated to all those people working towards a peaceful, tolerant and harmonious world, and IMDb for creating the means for people to do so, through film.
I update the list once a month.
5. The Most Popular Movies From the 90s's icon

The Most Popular Movies From the 90s

Favs/dislikes: 28:0. This is a list of the ten most voted movies on IMDb from each year in the 1990's. It gives another perspective than the list with the highest ratings. You could call it more of a popularity contest than a quality contest.

Favs/dislikes: 27:0. This list is from Philip Brophy's book 100 Anime (2005). "100 Anime is an exploration of the wonderfully complex and beautifully disorienting world of Japanese animation - anime. This expansive and mind-blowing book delves deep into the chaos of meaning gorged by anime's mutation of Eastern/Western themes, images and sounds." This is not a list of the "100 Greatest Anime." Some of the titles were selected in order to analyze Japanese pop culture and to show how vast the world of anime is. The list is in alphabetical order. Missing from IMDb: SD Gundam (1988)

BFI's 50 Essential South Asian Films

Favs/dislikes: 27:0. "This list of films is supposed to be a representative sample of the kinds of films that are produced and consumed in South Asia and elsewhere. It formed part of bfi's South Asian Cinema 2002 programme designed to present to the British public for the first time the immense diversity of South Asian cinema." This is the list that was compiled by experts. BFI also ran a user poll. 15. Byrge & Miller’s “The Screwball Comedy Films”'s icon

Byrge & Miller’s “The Screwball Comedy Films”

Favs/dislikes: 27:0. "This list is based off the book The Screwball Comedy Films: A History and Filmography, 1934-1942 by Duane Byrge and Robert Milton Miller. From the introduction: 'A screwball comedy was at heart a love story. It’s central romance was frequently instigated by an aggressive, even eccentric woman whose efforts to prod her more stodgy and conventional beau along the rocky road to the altar primed the comic mechanisms for a great deal of humor-by-embarassment. Improbable events, mistaken identities, and ominously misleading circumstantial evidence quickly compounded upon each other, albeit by seemingly logical progression, until a frantic conclusion in which even the impending marriage gives only faint promise of providing some whit of order as antidote to the previous narrative chaos. This book is intended as an historical menu for the feast, as well as a guide to sorting out and identifying the certifiably screwball from the much larger parade of vintage cinema comedy which surrounds it in the program schedules and on the cassette racks. Each of the following freature films described in the second section of this book has been found by the authors to qualify as sufficiently "screwy," by the standards of the era, to merit inclusion in our annotated filmography.' The films are listed chronologically."
16. Criterion Collection Stand-Alone Extras's icon

Criterion Collection Stand-Alone Extras

Favs/dislikes: 27:0. Films included on Criterion collection titles in addition to the main feature. These are both long and short films, however the only requirement is that they are not a traditional 'extra' about the film, like a making of film or an interview. They are instead an additional film, often by that director, that could easily stand alone (if a full feature) or in a compilation (if a short film). Note: this does not include individual episodes of portmanteau films
17. CriterionForum Lists Project - 2000s (Version 2.0)'s icon

CriterionForum Lists Project - 2000s (Version 2.0)

Favs/dislikes: 27:0. Every five years or so the film fans at Criterionforum.org spend half a year discussing the films of a certain decade - viewing and reviewing classics, championing favorites, and highlighting overlooked/underrated films. At the end of the discussion period they each submit lists of their fifty favorite films from the decade, and those lists are then compiled into a top 100, as well as a list of "also-rans" (the films which received more than one vote, but not enough to make the top 100.) This list includes both the top 100 and the "also-rans." These are the results of the poll conducted from July 2009-January 2010.

20. Films on at least 3 official lists's icon

Films on at least 3 official lists

Favs/dislikes: 27:1. Following an idea suggested by wowwee123 This is a list of every film on at least 3 official lists. I was hoping to make a list of every official check, but such a list is too large for the site, so we'll have to settle for multiple lists: Films on at least 3 official lists Films on exactly 2 official lists Films on 1 official list Part1 Films on 1 official list Part2

24. iCheckMovies Most Favorite - weighted (Dec 2011)'s icon

iCheckMovies Most Favorite - weighted (Dec 2011)

Favs/dislikes: 27:2. This is a weighted version of the iCM Most Favorite list, using the formula "favorites / (checks+50)", the same formula that the official list currently uses. The official Most Favorite list is based on incorrect fav counts (due to a bug). This list uses accurate data from Dec 20 (from the beta site), so I'm posting this list as a temporary solution until the bug is fixed. Edit: The bug was fixed on Jan 23, and as of Jan 26 the official list is based on accurate data. I will be keeping this list on iCM for historical purposes (so you can see what the list looked like in December 2011).
