AniMetacritic V.2: Top 50 Standalone Anime Series

Favs/dislikes: 7:1. In November 2013, Kadian created AniMetacritic V.2, a list of the highest rated anime by 161 reviewers and critics (based on ratings from their MAL profiles). It is an expanded version of Scamp's original AniMetacritic list. This is a list of the top 50 standalone series on AniMetacritic V.2. 10. Autostraddle's 50 Best Lesbian, Queer, and Bisexual Movies of the Decade's icon

Autostraddle's 50 Best Lesbian, Queer, and Bisexual Movies of the Decade

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. Whenever I’ve said to someone I was working on a Top 50 Lesbian+ Films of the Decade list I’ve been met with the same question: Were there really that many? The answer: Yes, of course. But there’s a follow-up question worth asking: If there were that many, why does it feel like there weren’t? The fact is most of the films about us — and especially the films by us — do not get the attention they deserve. They don’t get the budgets they deserve, the awards they deserve, the acclaim they deserve. But that’s why we exist — that’s why Autostraddle exists — because while we may not be able to fund the trans lesbian action movie of your dreams, we can remind you of the rare queer films that joined the zeitgeist and we can bring your attention to all the others you may have missed. The “short” list voted on by the entire Autostraddle team was 171 films. Voting took place in two parts: Everyone gave each film they’d personally seen a rating out of ten stars and then chose their top five favorites. The overall ratings were used to put together one list and the favorites were used to form another. Then those two lists were combined for what you see here. Films that had many people rate them were also weighted slightly higher on that list. The intention of this algorithm was to prioritize films featuring underrepresented groups while still not discrediting popularity. I wanted this list to bring attention to our favorite under-discussed movies, but also for it to act as a definitive reflection of the decade in lesbian+ cinema. Well, without further ado – here is the Autostraddle Best Lesbian+ Films of the Decade.
11. BBC Sport's The 50 Sport Films You Must See's icon

BBC Sport's The 50 Sport Films You Must See

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. #mybestsportfilm 5 April 2020 07:005 April 2020 07:00 What we've tried to do... 50 sport films you must see Rocky Balboa bounding up the steps to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, a group of white-clad men running along a beach as Vangelis plays, Pele... sorry, Luis Fernandez rising in slow motion to score with an overhead kick for the Allied side against the Nazis. Film has provided us with some truly memorable sporting moments. Now, with pretty much all sport halted as the world looks to combat the spread of coronavirus, film is one of the few places we can turn to get our fix of football, cricket, rugby and the rest. To help you sift through the many sporting films out there, BBC Sport journalists have picked 50 of the best and have had a go at selling them to you. We have made our picks to ensure a broad selection of sports are covered, along with a number of different genres, including some comedies and documentaries. And we've supplied you with an indication of how each might give you your sporting fix or use a bit of artistic licence to get you invested. We've also dug out a trailer for each film, to give you a taster. These are taken from YouTube and may contain adult themes. In addition, we have enlisted the help of some of our leading correspondents to give a brief overview of their sport on film. These 50 films are by no means a definitive top list of sporting films - and they are listed in alphabetical order - but they should hopefully be enough to fill the void and give you your sporting fix.

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. "In Midnight Movies, authors J. 17. Complex's 50 Indie Movies You Need To See Before You Die's icon

Complex's 50 Indie Movies You Need To See Before You Die

Favs/dislikes: 6:0. Today, June 21 2013, is the official start of summer, a technical bit of information Hollywood's studio execs have never given a damn about. For them and their expensive beach-season tentpole movies, summer officially begins once May calendars are introduced—meaning, since Iron Man 3, moviegoers have been steadily bombarded with gargantuan flicks the likes of Man of Steel and Fast & Furious 6, and, with World War Z opening, that's not about to stop anytime soon. What's a cinema buff to do? As always, seek out the nearest independent theater and/or art-house venue and drop cash on the latest no-budget films worthy of such concerted efforts. Without that kind of open-mindedness, DIY moviemaking would cease to exist, robbing cinephiles of flicks that could potentially rival the hallowed likes of Reservoir Dogs, The Terminator, and Night of the Living Dead. All of which, yes, were initially inconspicuous, independently made passion projects. Need some palate cleansers to help you fall back from seeing Man of Steel for the third time? Please consult our list of the 50 indie movies you need to see before you die, because, you know, a terrible, tragic accident could happen while you're en route to watch Channing Tatum save the world next week in White House Down. Use this to avoid any afterlife regrets. (complex.com)
18. Current TV's 50 Documentaries to See Before You Die's icon

Current TV's 50 Documentaries to See Before You Die

Favs/dislikes: 74:1. Over the past two decades the documentary film has graduated into mainstream cinema, becoming a major box office draw and an important part of contemporary culture. To celebrate this new age of the cinematic documentary, Current TV has commissioned a brand-new series that explores the most powerful, memorable and moving documentary feature films to have hit our cinema screens in recent years. The shows will count down from fifty to one, eventually revealing what our panel of preeminent film critics, academics and industry insiders has chosen as the most entertaining, powerful and influential modern documentary. However, this is not your average list show. Renowned documentarian Morgan Spurlock will embark on a road trip to track down the filmmakers and characters behind some of the most remarkable moments in contemporary cinema. Along the way, he'll meet maverick directors and eccentric contributors, travel to iconic locations and explore the impact that the documentaries have made on both their subjects and society, all the while counting down to number one. The five, one-hour shows will take the viewer from the plains of Antarctica in March of the Penguins to the basketball courts of Chicago in Hoop Dreams; from early examples of the blockbuster doc like Roger and Me and The Thin Blue Line to more recent hits such as Catfish and Inside Job. The series will form part of a two-month season in which Current will air full-length presentations of many of the featured docs.
