    Favs/dislikes: 3:0. An in-progress list of film adaptations based on Edgar Rice Burrough's Tarzan. I did not include tv series, though I did include TV movies and feature-length edits of TV episodes. Entries from 1918 to 1929 are silent films and film serials. Tarzan the Ape Man (1932) is the first sound adaptation of the character and the first film in a long-running franchise. It's also the first of the films to star the iconic Tarzan actor Johnny Weissmuller, who would go on to play Tarzan in twelve films total, ending with Tarzan and the Mermaids (1948). Other actors that played Tarzan in the franchise: Lex Barker (five films between 1949 and 1953); Gordon Scott (six films between 1955 and 1960); Jock Mahoney (two films between 1962 and 1963); Mike Henry (three films between 1966-1968). Ron Ely played the character in the NBC TV series, which is not included on this list, but included are the cinematically released pilot Tarzan's Jungle Rebellion (1966) and Tarzan's Deadly Silence (1970), which was edited from two of the series' episodes. Any repeats will only be listed in their earliest timeslot. The following films will air multiple times this month: The Glass Key (1942) Annie Hall (1977) Gilda (1946) The Killers (1946) Mean Streets (1973) Saratoga (1937) Note that there are no separate IMDb pages for the 15 episodes of the 1943 Batman starring Lewis Wilson, so it appears as just "Batman" during its first airtime of the month. TCM is airing a few episodes this month separately, refer to the program guide at TCM.com if you're interested. Missing items: The Corvair in Action! The Fleischer & Famous Superman cartoons are a series of seventeen animated Technicolor short films released by Paramount Pictures and based upon the comic book character Superman. The pilot and first eight shorts were produced by Fleischer Studios from 1941 to 1942, while the final eight were produced by Famous Studios, a successor company to Fleischer Studios, from 1942 to 1943. Superman was the final animated series initiated under Fleischer Studios, before Famous Studios officially took over production in May 1942. All of the films are in the public domain.

The films will be screened at the Dutch Film Festival, then online and a year later on television during the so-called evening of the short film. The NTR (a Dutch public broadcaster), the Dutch Film Fund, the Dutch Cultural Broadcasting Fund and the Co-production Fund Domestic Broadcasting facilitate the production of these short fiction films.
