Long regarded as a walking movie encyclopedia, Tarantino rattled off a list of his 20 favorite films since 1992 — the year he made his directorial debut with "Reservoir Dogs". Kinji Fukasaku's "Battle Royale" is the only film the director cited as his runaway pick for number one, but he declined to rank the others, opting instead to name them in alphabetical order (listed above). Rape-Revenge Films: A Critical Study

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. Movies discussed in Alexandra Heller-Nicholas's Rape-Revenge Films: A Critical Study, which "surveys a sample of rape-revenge films that span genre and national and historical boundaries to emphasize that, in regard to the treatment of sexual violence in the category, diverse notions coexisted contemporaneously and continue to do so today." Many of these films are not strictly rape-revenge, but are discussed to give context to the theme of sexual violence. Updated to include films discussed in the revised 2nd edition (2021), which has an increased focus on rape-revenge films directed by women—see the notes for more information on which films are new to the 2nd edition and directed by women.
