The DPP 39 (UK Video Nasties)

Favs/dislikes: 23:0. These are the 39 controversial films banned from sale in the UK by the Department of Public Prosecutions (DPP) under the Video Recordings Act of 1984. The films were banned in response to a right-wing media fury spearheaded by the campaigner Mary Whitehouse (1910-2001) who popularised Sunday Times journalist Peter Chippendale's phrase "Video Nasty" despite never having watched any of the films themselves. In the years that followed, several of these movies were released either cut or uncut, whilst the others have either not been granted a certificate; or no distributor has since requested one. Not included here are: - films originally banned at the same time as the Video Nasties, but never prosecuted, such as The Evil Dead. - films often believed to have been part of the DPP 39, including A Clockwork Orange, The Exorcist, Straw Dogs, Ilsa She-Wolf of the SS and The Texas Chain Saw Massacre - all of which were unavailable in the UK for other reasons. The DPP 39 list is a matter of quintessential bad taste. In most cases, don't expect great movies, but check out what the fuss was all about! Wikipedia List of Banned Films

Favs/dislikes: 5:0. "This is a list of banned films. For nearly the entire history of film production, certain films have been banned by film censorship or review organizations for political or moral reasons or for controversial content, such as racism. Censorship standards vary widely by country, and can vary within an individual country over time due to political or moral change. Many countries have government-appointed or private commissions to censor and rate productions for film and television exhibition. While it is common for films to be edited to fall into certain rating classifications, this list includes only films that have been explicitly prohibited from public screening." *Missing from IMDB: Ghaire aze Khoudo Hitch Kass Naboud Zahari's 17 Years Female Games Dr Lim Hock Siew Kumasowe
4. Shocking & Disturbing EXTREME Cinema's icon

Shocking & Disturbing EXTREME Cinema

Favs/dislikes: 0:0. For a movie to be here, it has to SHOCK. Either for it's depiction of gore, sex, violence or any other theme, it's all about taking things to EXTREMES. These are not to be viewed by people with weak stomachs, sensible hearts, or narrow moralistic taboos. After watching them, you'll probably need therapy or a vomit bag, so better think twice before pressing "play"! Everything you never thought you'd see on film can definitely be found on any of these titles. (in no particular order):
