  3. iCheckMovies - 1000 Most Polarizing's icon

    iCheckMovies - 1000 Most Polarizing

Favs/dislikes: 17:1. This list attempts to find the most polarizing movies, meaning the movies with a significant number of both favorites AND dislikes. It uses the formula abs(favorites - dislikes) / (checks + 50) after first filtering anything with less than 50 favorites and/or dislikes (that is dislikes + favorites < 50). I played around with several variations before settling on this formula but it is far from perfect. Please leave a suggestion in the comments if you think it can be improved. I will attempt to keep this list up to date.

Stanley Kubrick's Top Ten Favorite Films

Favs/dislikes: 15:0. In this choice one can detect a broadminded attitude towards very dissimilar aesthetic experiences, with a preference nevertheless for European art films strongly colored by a pessimistic view of life (Fellini, Antonioni, Bergman); and a predilection for American directors known for their larger-than-life, as also for their marginal position with regard to the system (Welles, Huston, Chaplin, W.C. Fields, Howard Hughes, Wellman).

It's a neat little series, and occasionally, you can try and determine whether that actor or actress is pulling a Rachel Greene and revealing that her favorite movie is Dangerous Liasons instead of what it actually is, Weekend at Bernies. 12. Edgar Wright's 1000 Favorite Movies's icon

    Edgar Wright's 1000 Favorite Movies

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. This list of personal favorites was assembled by Edgar Wright and Sam DiSalle in July 2016. Films are in chronological order. Note from Edgar: “This is a personal and subjective list of 1000 favourite movies from 100 years of cinema. It’s not a set text or intended as any bible of ‘greatest’ films. I decided to put this together as a fluid list for my own enjoyment, amusement and reference. I hope it’s fun for you to pore over and dive into some of the films you haven’t seen or haven’t heard of. Don’t get all riled up about omissions or which movies you think should be favourites of mine, the truth is I may very well like / not like or not have seen the movies you think are missing. In fact, I like way more than 1000 movies, but any longer and this list would be really insane. Thanks to Sam DiSalle for helping me put it together. If you feel so inspired, make your own list. Film watching is a life time pursuit and there’s many more films out there for me to see. This site is a great place to start." Edgar Wright, Aug 2016.
