Jean Dujardin was amazing in the artist. And the Artist should win best picture, THOUGH The Help should also be another front runner and Moneyball was phenomenal. Midnight in Paris is the first Woody Allen movie I have ever seen and I thoroughly enjoyed it, though I do believe the story of Hugo seemed the most appealing to me. Here are my picks:
Best Picture: The Artist
Best Director: Martin Scorsese (Hugo)
Best Actor: Jean Dujardin (The Artist)
Best Actress: Rooney Mara (Girl w/ the Dragon Tattoo)
Supporting Actor: Jonah Hill (Moneyball)
Supporting Actress: Octavia Spencer (The Help)
Best Music (Original Score): The Artist
Makeup: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2
Costume Design: Anonymous
Cinematography: Hugo
Film Editing: Hugo
Writing Original Screenplay: Midnight in Paris
Art Direction: Midnight in Paris
Documentary Short: The Tsunami and the Cherry Blossom
Foreign Language Film: A Seperation
Animated Feature Film: Rango
Writing Adapted Screenplay: Moneyball
Short Film Animated: The Fantastic Flying Books of Mr. Morris Lessmore
Sound Editing: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Sound Mixing: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo
Visual Effects: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows pt. 2
Documentary Feature: Hell and Back Again
Music Animated Film: "Man or a Muppet" The Muppets
Short Film (Live Action): Pentecost
Still haven't seen all of the films nominated this year, but so far these are my personal pics for the major awards.
Best Picture- The Artist
Best Director- Michel Hazanavicius
Best Actor- Jean Dujardin
Best Actress- Viola Davis
Best Supp. Actor- Christopher Plummer
Best Supp. Actress- Octavia Spencer
Best Original Screenplay- Midnight in Paris
Best Adapt Screenplay- The Descendents
Best Cinematography- The Artist
I am going to stick with my previously predicted winners, except Project Nim wasn't even nominated.
I am going to have to change my prediction to Hell and Back Again, but I have not seen it. I can just see the Academy giving the award that has something to do with Marines and war.

Michel Hazanavicius will win Director for The Artist. As much as I would like to see Scorsese win, I think the Artist will sweep picture and director
Been reading a lot of Oscar predictions and I'm very surprised that I don't see 'We Need To Talk About Kevin' anywhere. It deserves a spot somewhere, most importantly, Tilda Swinton for Best Actress.
It's unclear how many films will be nominated for Best Picture this year, but I'd say a maximum group of ten could include:
The Artist, The Descendants, The Tree of Life, Hugo, Moneyball, Midnight in Paris, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Help, War Horse, and I'm not too sure about the tenth spot but I'll go with Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
The Artist is the only one of those that I haven't managed to see yet, but it does seem to be the frontrunner going into the Oscars. Judging by the awards conversation thus far, I'm going with The Artist to beat out The Descendants for the top prize.
I have not seen the Artist, so i can't vouch for it being a best picture winning film, but it is just winning everything. Plus it has the Weinstein company promoting it.
I don't think Tree of Life can win, but I could see it slipping into a nomination if there are 7 or 8. I think it will win cinematography though.
But you are right, if the Artist doesn't win (80%), it will be the Descendants.(20%) I really don't think any other film has a chance.
Don't you all think that The Artist and Tree of Life are a bit too artistic? Oscar winners usually have quite a broad appeal. I'm thinking The Descendants is the one to beat now...
