Where has Flames in the Valley (aka Sanbul) gone? It still has an IMDb page, so it shouldn't be too hard to put back up. Unless I'm missing something?

No one has any excuse for the low turnout on the Korean lists any longer.

The two lists were created by different organizations, so it's not redundant.

This list was created by the Korean Film Archive in 2006, and it's a list of the best Korean films from 1936-1996, selected by a committee of 13 people.

The other list was created by FILM2.0 magazine in 2008, and it's a list of the best Korean films of all time (it's unclear how they made the list, but it was probably some sort of poll). It's not an updated version of this list.

I guess this list became redundant, now there's a version 2.0 on this site? Or is there a big difference between the two lists?

@Duke of Omnium: As far as I know, none of these films are lost. Some of them haven't been released on DVD, so if you wanted to watch them you would have to rent them from the Korean Film Archive. About half of these films are available online (I haven't counted, so I'm not sure exactly how many).

@Duke of omnium - I have no knowledge of these missing films, but I'm well aware of many films that has not found their way into IMDb's database, which is what ICM's database is based on. The film pages are imported from IMDb. The reasons can be many and diverse. When it comes to South Korea perhaps not too many South Koreans are on IMDb, and adding movies is a really hard and lenghty process it seems, I know many people who have tried and tried to add films without success. I guess it's possible that they are lost, but to be honest I doubt it.

And though I haven't seen a single film on this list I too will echo it's importance. Certainly one of the most interesting looking lists on the site. Most of the titles seem hard to get by, but I'll try to source some out. Already got my eyes on Hanyo.

Are some of these films considered to be lost (which would mean, in this context, that they're not even available in Korea)? I ask only because fourteen of these are not in the ICM or IMDB databases.

I'll echo the last couple of positive comments; I would imagine that very few people outside of S. Korea would have seen many of these films - or even heard of most of them - but if anything that makes the list all the more valuable, for pointing those of us interested in finding out something about early Korean cinema in some kind of direction. There's plenty of information about stuff from the last 15 years out there already.

That’s great someone else think this list useful. I was feeling quite weird liking this.
And by the way, the original source for the list should be : http://www.koreafilm.org/feature/100.asp
where they explain why they choose these titles.

Jsn and Juggertha, how can you say it's a bad list when you've seen nothing from it? Just because it doesn't have the mainstream Korean crop, does this mean it's a "bad" list? Im Kwon-taek and Kim Ki-young where some of their films are included on this list are some of the greatest directors of all time and Flower in Hell is one of the most brilliant depictions of romance and cruelty at the same time!

How can some of you people say it's a bad list just becaue your precious 2000's flicks aren't around here? This is arguably one of the best lists of this site mainly because of the DISCOVERY factor. Don't you people want to explore cinema more???
