Turkish cinema during the 1970s easily beats the cinematic output of any other country in the world. In fact, the only thing wrong with this list is the scarcity of Turkish entries. Get to work, my trusty Turkish IMDB mafia, and we'll show all film lovers the meaning of true cinema.

It's sad that for Turkish, Serbian and Indian movies one cannot trust imdb ratings. Many of them are turds indeed. Andaz Apna Apna anyone?

If we all just watch them and give them a proper and honest rating, we should get rid of them over time. It doesn't hurt to watch a turd every once in a while, be it quite painful to sit through them.

Also, I think the 70's were not a very good decade in movies from what I've seen so far. Angst Essen Seele Auf? Interesting movie, but mediocre acting. Fassbinder made much better movies.
Aguirre? So overrated.

I really miss 'Johnny Got His Gun' and 'The French Connection' on this list. Both definitely deserve to be on it.

I totally understand where Kasparius is coming from. It is extremely frustrating to see these bad foreign films make their way up the charts.

But I have to agree with roobin_22. If we start voting down these films without having seen them, then we are no better than the teenage girls who vote down classic movies that get to the top of the IMDb Top 250. (see: The Seven Samurai, Apocalypse Now, Sunset Blvd, Dr. Strangelove, etc.)

Strange that 6 of the 50 best films from the 70s are made in Turkey.

Even stranger is that 6 of the 50 best comedies ever made, comes from Turkey and the 1970s.

@MrCarmady: My point was that if you look at specifically how the Female Under-18 demographic votes on those movies, it is wildly out of sync with everyone else. It's been a topic of discussion before on IMDb.

I do agree that teenage males rule the Top 250 list. It's why every comic book movie shoots to the top right after release.

hondito, you're totally right. Though it's teenage males who are the main IMDB demographic, I think.
