@Zeltaebar: Yeah, I had a similar discussion with my friend yesterday about IMDb vs. Rotten Tomatoes. I argued that where a movie places on IMDb's rating is totally dependent on who takes the time to rate it/review it, while on a website like Rotten Tomatoes, the people rating films *have* to write a review and rate every film they see. At the same time though, what may appeal to a critic who has studied the art of film may not appeal to Frank from Illinois who likes to see explosions or Maria from Russia who likes movies that she can relate to her life. Really, if you want recommendations for a movie to watch, you should look at both critical and user reviews.

Just because some great American films were released that decade, doesn't mean the 80's as well as any other decade are inherently "American". Lots of amazing films from lots of amazing countries were released during that decade and I'm sure none will mind the ignorance shown towards Lethal Weapon in order to support hidden gems.

Why is there is no quote when you hover above R2D2? There is one for all the other decades...

Guys, the list is directly fetched from IMDb. All you see is list emanating from choices of users (just like you and I). Hence, no point in asking 'why isn't a certain 'X' film not there?'

We do have a John Hughes film. What dance movies would you say are better than the films are on the list?

I second deepspeaks but would like to add that the reason why The Never Ending Story isn't on here is because of how incredibly boring it is.

Though this list might not so it too well I think the 80s was a relatively poor time for American blockbusters/action movies, while more "serious" cinema still was more than solid, particularly outside the US.

As for everyone that has a question about "where" some film is, check their IMDb ratings / number of votes.

@Zeltaebar - There aren't really any objectively bad films out there. There's just not a lot of room for objectivity when there comes to art.

This might just be the worst decade in history for American cinema.
