This list needs a sequel. I can only hope that it would be better than the original.

I wonder why For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly don't count? They're certainly better than freakin' Shrek 2.

It's not a sequel list without Road Warrior [Mad Max 2]

If you go to the actual site, they explain that they consider LOTR and Kill Bill to be one whole and therefore do not count as sequels.

Seems Empire updated the list back in August, hence why there are now 60. They've also renamed it "The Greatest Movie Sequels", which makes sense.

Gremlins 2? Blade 2? Shrek 2? Harry Potter?? These are the greatest sequels of all time?

This list is a complete failure. It must quickly be replaced by a better one. I can easily name much better sequels than some in this list.

@Peeble probably because the list was created before Toy Story 3 was.

French Connection II? Halloween III? The Lost World? I didn't realize anyone even LIKED those movies, let alone thought they were some of the 50 Best Sequels of all time!

The Lord of the Rings sequels don't count because they're part of a series, same with films such as Kill Bill, still doesn't excuse the omission of The Road Warrior or Bride of Frankenstein.

INTERNAL AFFAIRS 2 is hardly one of the 50 greatest sequels ever made, notwithstanding the fact that it's actually a freakin' PREQUEL

So LOTR and Kill Bill are considered to be one whole? Then why is Harry Potter on this list? Not to mention Back to the Future, where parts II and III were actually shot back to back as one single production? Hell, even Star Wars was supposed to be a trilogy by the time they started shooting. If anything Star Wars is supposed to be a sequel (by the Empire definition) then you could say the prequel trilogy is a sequel to the original trilogy, but that's it. Can't argue with Aliens, though: THAT is a sequel, and also a text book example of how to do a sequel right.
