1. When Hollywood Came to Town's icon

When Hollywood Came to Town

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. Films mentioned in James d'Arc's book "When Hollywood Came to Town: A History of Moviemaking in Utah" (2010, 2019). Sorted chronologically, then alphabetically. Lost films are not included in the check-off list. These are: - One Hundred Years of Mormonism (1913) - The Deadwood Coach (1924) - Forlorn River (1926) - Arizona Bound (1927) - Lightning (1927) - The Shepherd of the Hills (1928) - Under the Tonto Rim (1928) - The Vanishing Pioneer (1928) - The Night Flyer (1928) - West of the Rockies (1929) - The Mormon Conquest (1939) More recent films listed in the back of the book but not mentioned in the book itself have been moved to a separate list here: https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/when+hollywood+came+to+town+other+films/yormovies/

TCM January 2015 Schedule

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. Everything playing on TCM in January 2015, in chronological order. Missing: Tear Gas In Law Enforcement (1962) - Not on IMDb Studio Highlights (1934) AKA Flirtation Walk Promo - Not on IMDB A note: MGM Parade Show #34 (1955) - Awaiting add to iCM, also appears multiple times in the month, so it actually may be different episodes than 34, I'm not sure.
7. 1001 TV Series You Must Watch Before You Die (2015)'s icon

1001 TV Series You Must Watch Before You Die (2015)

Favs/dislikes: 32:2. This is the 1st edition (October 2015) and the latest addition to the bestselling and highly acclaimed 1001-series. "From "Leave it to Beaver" to "Breaking Bad", "The Honeymooners" to "Homeland", this compilation of important and groundbreaking television shows is packed full of trivia and will be sure to make you want to pick up the remote or start streaming. Selected by an international team of experts and covering a worldwide spectrum of programs from the classics of the 1950s to the cutting-edge shows of today, 1001 TV Series is one of the most comprehensive books ever published on the topic of television." This volume is virtually impossible to finish (as you have to watch every single episode of every single entry). Not to mention many of the shows are still running this very day. If the authors instead chose to focus only on TV-series/TV-Mini-series/TV-movies you might have had a chance, but unfortunately, TV shows - including Game shows, Reality and Talk shows - are also included. NOTE: the book contains some TV-movies or stand-alone episodes from TV-series, but the vast majority of the entries are either TV-series, TV-Mini-series or TV shows. The genres are: Action/Adventure: 43 Animation: 13 Awards show: 3 Biography: 1 Comedy: 246 Comedy/Drama: 31 Crime: 1 Crime/Mystery: 101 Documentary: 18 Drama: 226 Fantasy/Horror/Sci-Fi: 107 Game show: 26 Historical drama: 60 Music/Musical: 13 Reality: 31 Soap opera: 28 Sports: 2 Talk Show: 16 Variety: 22 Western: 13 = 1001 TV-series/shows/movies that, according to the introduction by Robb Pearlman, "could not be included" (it is never argued why): The Winds of War (1983) Lonesome Dove (1989) Requiem for a Heavyweight (1962) [???????] Sybil (1976) Gia (1998) Trilogy of Terror (1975) Duel (1971) V (1983) Recount (2008) Game Change (2012) An Early Frost (1984) And the Band Played On (1993) Brian's Song (1971) Mildred Pierce (2011) Life with Judy Garland: Me and My Shadows (2001). Some entries that most likely will cause some problems in terms of checking them are the Awards shows: Academy Awards (#17), Golden Globe Awards (#50), MTV Video Music Awards (#365) as well as "Eurovision Song Contest" (#32). Instead of adding every single annual event for these shows, I decided to add only the earliest entry I could locate on IMDb (as if you care about those shows and/or will finish this list anyway). NOTE: "1001 TV Series You Must Watch Before You Die" and "1001 TV Shows You Must Watch Before You DIe" have identical entires (1948-2015) - as well as the same page total (960) - although they're two different books. Generally speaking, the only differences between the two books are: - the introduciton is longer in "Shows" (an introduction by Robb Pearlman) whereas "Series" have a much shorter introduction and instead have an additional index (Index by Genre). The "Index by Genre" is not featured in "Shows". - "Shows" is in hardcover whereas "Series" is in paperback. - The front and back cover are different. If you spot any errors (or if any of the abovementioned series/shows I've listed earlier has been added to IMDb), or if you have any questions about the entries or the list as a whole, please don't hesitate to PM me.

10. Out at Criterion's icon

Out at Criterion

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. From 1961's groundbreaking Victim to trailblazing modern romances, these are the LGBTQ films out on Criterion. In 1961, Basil Dearden’s Victim became the first mainstream English-language drama to feature a sympathetic homosexual protagonist, played by matinee idol Dirk Bogarde. In 2011, Andrew Haigh’s boy-meets-boy romance Weekend defied expectations to become a crossover art-house hit. The fact that, fifty years after Victim, Weekend is also considered groundbreaking is evidence of how far cinema may still have to go in terms of gay representation. But between these two revelatory films, there have been plenty of other important and entertaining ones made about gay, lesbian, and bisexual people, and several of them are available in the Criterion Collection, including works by trailblazers like Robert Epstein, Derek Jarman, and Gus van Sant. Films listed alphabetically by Criterion's title. At the end are two collections: Pasolini 101 (9 films) and The Signifyin’ Works of Marlon Riggs (7 films) Old Source

ICM Forum's Favorite Train Films (2024)

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. From the moment in 1896 when the Lumière brothers screened their film of a train arriving at La Ciotat Station, trains have made an indelible mark on cinema. Haven't included films not specifically identified in photo montages such as during the opening credits or the review of Post War European cinema nor films mentioned in newspaper clipping text shown. Titles are not ranked nor have I tried to organize the list to match the documentary: instead the films are sorted first by year, then listed in alphabetical order (ignoring articles).

19. Films which Replicate Psychosis's icon

Films which Replicate Psychosis

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. Psychosis is a break from reality. It can take the form of audio or visual hallucinations, or delusions (believing things that aren't true... not in a "haha the world is flat" but more of a "I am Jesus reborn" sort of thinking). Psychosis is a primary hallmark of schizophrenia, but may also be present in certain cases of bipolar disorder or depression. A true psychotic break / episode is (at least for me) a terrifying experience, where you're not sure what is real or not - as you enter into a waking dream state where there's basically any rules to reality. Like thinking the walls are spying on you whilst shadow figures are surrounding you. It can feel just like a horror movie at times - that you're living. If you're curious to experience this yourself - then most "normal" folks are capable of experiencing psychosis after prolonged sleep deprivation -Usually after 24 hours - you'll at least get some smaller hallucinations (entering psychosis may take up to 72 hours of sleep deprivation though). This list will hopefully serve as a guide to films which reproduce the experience of psychosis - to give the rest of you a glimpse into the world which some of us live in 24/7. There will be an emphasis on paranoia and hallucinations. I expect there'll be a large number of horror movies, or duplicates from my other schizophrenia list project: https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/schizophrenia+in+film/minkin/ All suggestions are welcome and will be added, but I am the brewmeister of the list, so all films will receive final vetting from me (or my team if I eventually get a group of us going). If you would like an explanation as to why a movie is on this list, then please see the "notes" on this list on Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/minkin/list/films-which-replicate-psychosis/ Note: everything from Bug after in the list has not been vetted by me yet, so don't treat those as canon.
