1. Acclaimed Films from Around the World's icon

Acclaimed Films from Around the World

Favs/dislikes: 22:0. For each country, I selected a maximum of 2 films, 1 film per director. Countries that no longer exist are listed by their current names. The films are listed alphabetically by country (see the IMDb list to see which films are from which country). I did not use a formula to select the films, but my selections are mainly based on the following criteria: 1. Country-specific and region-specific critic polls. 2. Non-country-specific critic polls. 3. Various other lists. 4. Rotten Tomatoes scores and ratings. Note: Although the list has room for improvement, I lost interest, so I am not planning to update it.

  6. Film4's 100 Must-See Films of the 21st Century's icon

    Film4's 100 Must-See Films of the 21st Century

Favs/dislikes: 22:1. Drawn from 29 countries around the world, the most recent release on our list is Richard Linklater’s Boyhood, which stormed into the chart at number 5. Other recent releases in the top 20 include Steve McQueen’s landmark 12 Years A Slave and Jonathan Glazer’s mesmeric Under The Skin. Glazer is one of just a handful of directors with two films on the list – the others are the afore-mentioned Linklater, indie essentials the Coen brothers, US powerhouse David Fincher and of course Austrian auteur Michael Haneke. Something else we’re really proud of is the mixture of different types of film this list represents – there’s everything from modern teen classics like the Tina Fey-scripted Mean Girls, to massive animated blockbusters like Chris Buck and Jennifer Lee’s Frozen, to Oscar winners like Danny Boyle’s Slumdog Millionaire, to austere art-house triumphs such as Kelly Reichart’s Old Joy, to the acutely humane social realism found in The Selfish Giant by Clio Barnard. And much, much more. The difficulty with these lists is always what gets left off (we're saving documentaries for another list entirely). Our long-list ran to an unwieldy 300+ which we had originally intended to cut down to a top 50 before realising that the 21st century has already generated too much brilliant cinema to represent in any meaningful way with 50 films. So with apologies to the many wonderful filmmakers whose work we were unable to include, we present our list of 100 must-see films of the century so far...

  25. RottenTomatoes' "Fresh" Films of the 2010s's icon

RottenTomatoes' "Fresh" Films of the 2010s

Favs/dislikes: 21:0. This is a list of every major film that has been released thus far in the decade of 2010-2019 and has a "fresh" rating of 60% or higher on Rotten Tomatoes. By "major film" I am referring to any wide release or film that has otherwise received notable attention or acclaim from critics and audiences. Please note that some films are just teetering on the border between "fresh" and "rotten" so sometimes a film that was once rotten becomes fresh or a film that was once fresh becomes rotten. This is not a definitive "best of the decade" list per se, but just a general idea of what what films have been well received by the critics. I will be updating this every time a new "fresh" film is released and this list will continue to grow as the decade proceeds. *Notes: Concert movies such as Katy Perry: Part of Me or Justin Bieber: Never Say Never are not included. Some of the movies listed have changed titles during production but have not yet been changed on iCheckMovies. I have listed these films in the location where their new names should be placed alphabetically. These films include Hope Springs (Great Hope Springs), The Campaign (Dog Fight), Killing Them Softly (Cogan's Trade) and Lawless (The Wettest County in the World).
