TimeOut's 1000 Films to change your life (2006)

Favs/dislikes: 1:1. Films are sorted by the order they appear in the book (including stills). Note: some films appear or are mentioned several times throughout the book. If a film is mentioned in more than one chapter it is listed under the chapter it is first mentioned (i.e. not necessarily the chapter the film is discussed the most). "Confession: there are, in fact, 1158 films mentioned in 1000 Films. Happy viewing!" #1-14: First pages & Introduction #15-159: Joy #160-301: Anger #302-442: Food for thought #443-533: Desire #534-616: Fear #617-720: Sadness #721-899: Exhilaration #900-1024: Regret #1025-1086: Contempt #1087-1162: Wonder (#1163: Only picture of the poster) (#1164-1177: Index of titles) (#1178: Penultimate page) "My Girl 2" should not really count as the inclusion of that movie is a typo. Films mentioned in the sections "Contributors", "Useful websites" and "100 to watch" (100 reviews of films - all of which are featured in the book - taken from Time Out Film Guide that in turn mention other films) are not listed.

    Rape-Revenge Films: A Critical Study

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. Movies discussed in Alexandra Heller-Nicholas's Rape-Revenge Films: A Critical Study, which "surveys a sample of rape-revenge films that span genre and national and historical boundaries to emphasize that, in regard to the treatment of sexual violence in the category, diverse notions coexisted contemporaneously and continue to do so today." Many of these films are not strictly rape-revenge, but are discussed to give context to the theme of sexual violence. Updated to include films discussed in the revised 2nd edition (2021), which has an increased focus on rape-revenge films directed by women—see the notes for more information on which films are new to the 2nd edition and directed by women. 22. The Criterion Channel's Queersighted Series's icon

    The Criterion Channel's Queersighted Series

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. Queersighted is an ongoing series from The Criterion Channel which takes a look at film history through a distinctly queer lens. Series programmer Michael Koresky explains, "Queer cinema is not a genre. But there is a thread of queerness that runs through all of film history. I always find it really interesting to talk about film history in this way. There's just this coded, surreptitious language that queer viewers are very attuned to. Queersighted gives us a chance to look through film history and find these hidden messages." Currently, seven installments of Queersighted have been released. This list includes every film discussed as queer with the title, director's name, and year of release displayed. Queersighted #1: The Ache of Desire (1-8) Queersighted #2: Turn the Gaze Around (9-19) Queersighted #3: Queer Fear (20-30) Queersighted #4: Breaking Taboos (31-41) Queersighted #5: Class Acts (42-52) Queersighted #6: Stage to Screen (53-60) Queersighted #7: The Musical! (61-68)
