This reliable source of information summarizes and rates over 3900 films [actually it doesn't; there are 3895 entries in total]. Each review includes key information on leading performers, directors, running time, year of release, videotape and Closed-Captioned availability, MPAA rating, and Academy Awards and nominations. Rating the Movies is updated, to include the very latest important films - Dick Tracy, Total Recall, Driving Miss Daisy, Born on the Fourth of July, Back to the Future Part III, Die Hard 2: Die Harder, Pretty Woman, and many more. Of course, all the great classics that made movie history are here too, including such colorful swashbucklers as The Adventures of Robin Hood and such sweeping epics as Gone With the Wind. Viewing African Cinema in the 21st Century

Favs/dislikes: 0:0. Title: Viewing African Cinema in the Twenty-First Century: Art Films and the Nollywood Video Revolution Author(s): Mahir Saul, Ralph A. Austen Publisher: Ohio University Press City: Year: 2010 ISBN: 0821419307, 9780821419304 African cinema in the 1960s originated mainly from Francophone countries. It resembled the art cinema of contemporary Europe and relied on support from the French film industry and the French state. Beginning in1969 the biennial Festival panafricain du cinéma et de la télévision de Ouagadougou (FESPACO), held in Burkina Faso, became the major showcase for these films. But since the early 1990s, a new phenomenon has come to dominate the African cinema world: mass-marketed films shot on less expensive video cameras. These “Nollywood” films, so named because many originate in southern Nigeria, are a thriving industry dominating the world of African cinema. Viewing African Cinema in the Twenty-first Century is the first book to bring together a set of essays offering a unique comparison of these two main African cinema modes. MTV 500 for 2005: The Top 500 MTV Videos of All Time

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. "Back in May 1997, MTV aired a week long special on the Top 500 videos in MTV history. They did it once again in September of 1997. The countdowns were virtually identical, except from the fact that the bigger videos of that year had moved their way up into their place among the top videos of the past. The positions of the other videos, from 1996 and before, were kept the same, either to save time to get another list out quickly, or to hold tight to the original rankings and merely to add the top newer videos to their spots. I prefer to think the latter, as this is a good way to keep continuinity through time. Unfortunately, MTV has not aired another 'MTV 500' since 1997, which led me to wonder where the videos that were hits after September 1997 would rank. I decided to take on this simple task myself, simple because I merely had to look back at the Video Music Award results from 1998-2004, as well as the MTV Year-end countdowns. The Year-end countdowns were hard to find, as records of these are scarce. It was just a matter of determining which videos deserved a place in MTV history, plug them in, and we have the list below" missing #484 Fabolous ft. Nate Dogg - Can't Deny It (skip it)

In some cases there will be better videos out there. For example the banned video 1 for Relax, STP Creep. The ranking is also unlikely to be sober with Wicked Game and Voices Carry among those ending up near the bottom (also check out positions 477-479), MJ being limited to 10 videos (while Madonna gets to have 7 among top 101). Smooth Criminal got banned altogether, even though Bad is on the list.
