The Montreal World Film Festival (WFF) (French: le Festival des Films du Monde or FFM), founded in 1977, is one of Canada's oldest international film festivals and the only competitive film festival in North America accredited by the FIAPF (although the Toronto International Film Festival is North America's only accredited non-competitive festival). The public festival is held annually in late August in the city of Montreal in Quebec. Unlike the Toronto International Film Festival, its counterpart in (prominently) English-speaking Canada, the Montreal World Film Festival focuses on various kinds of films from all over the world, while the former features not just international films, but also more of a focus on Canadian films (including Quebec) and other North American films. -

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956.[1] The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue.[1][2] The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. Nine shortlisted contenders were revealed a week before the announcement of the Oscar nominations.[2] The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2015 and 30 September 2016. The deadline for submissions is 3 October 2016,[3] with the Academy announcing a list of eligible films later that month. Nine finalists from among the dozens of entries will be shortlisted on 17 January 2017, with the final five nominees being announced on 24 January 2017.[4] The winner will be announced at the Oscar ceremony on 26 February 2017.[4] -

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) has invited the film industries of various countries to submit their best film for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film every year since the award was created in 1956. The award is presented annually by the Academy to a feature-length motion picture produced outside the United States that contains primarily non-English dialogue. The Foreign Language Film Award Committee oversees the process and reviews all the submitted films. The submitted motion pictures must be first released theatrically in their respective countries between 1 October 2017 and 30 September 2018. The deadline for submissions was 1 October 2018, with the Academy announcing a list of eligible films on 8 October. A total of 89 countries submitted a film, with 87 of those being accepted. Two countries submitted a film for the first time. Malawi sent The Road to Sunrise and Niger sent The Wedding Ring. -

A record total of 92 countries submitted a film, with six countries submitting a film for the first time. Haiti sent Ayiti Mon Amour, Honduras sent Morazán,[6] Laos sent Dearest Sister, Mozambique sent The Train of Salt and Sugar, Senegal sent Félicité, and Syria sent Little Gandhi. From the longlist, nine finalists were shortlisted in late 2017, with the final five nominees announced on 23 January 2018. -
