  1. Complete Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons's icon

Complete Warner Bros. Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies cartoons

Favs/dislikes: 111:2. Since 1929, Warner Brothers have produced outstanding theatrical and (later) television cartoon shorts. Although their output has declined since the golden era of animation, they have produced enough quality shorts to satisfy any audience. Presented here is the complete Merrie Melodies and Looney Tunes cartoon shorts in order of release. Feature films and television specials (not shorts) have been excluded from this list.
  2. Abbott and Costello's icon

    Abbott and Costello

Favs/dislikes: 16:0. Starting as burlesque acts, Abbott and Costello joined and made one of cinema's greatest comedy teams. With Abbott the straight-man and Costello the perennial bumbling troublemaker, one is sure to find brilliant comedy throughout their oeuvre. Although they were made famous by their "Who's on First?" act, it was by their films that they should be best remembered. Abbott and Costello might fill a small spot in the expansive history of comedic teams - but to those who explore their filmography, I envy your first encounter with these masters.
  3. Star Trek: The Original Series's icon

    Star Trek: The Original Series

Favs/dislikes: 11:0. What began as an unassuming 1966 television series - exploded into an empire of books, comics, films, fan projects, lifelong devoted trekkies/trekkers and five additional television series (at current count). The short lived, three season original series continues to inspire generations as they witness the voyages of the Starship Enterprise.
  4. Vorbehaltsfilm (Banned Nazi Germany films)'s icon

    Vorbehaltsfilm (Banned Nazi Germany films)

Favs/dislikes: 6:0. These are the 40+ films that were made during the Nazi era period of Germany that remain banned in the country. The list was originally created by the Allies upon their control of post-war Germany. At that time, the list consisted of more than a thousand films. Although most of the films on the original list have been removed and are now available freely in the country, these films remain banned due to "propaganda, glorifying war or antisemitism." Control of these films are their status on the list is under the jurisdiction of the Freiwillige Selbstkontrolle der Filmwirtschaft (or FSK). These films can only be viewed during special academic screenings - which require very strict regulations. Along with Mein Kampf, the continued ban on these Nazi era relics results in a country that is merely hiding its past rather than understanding it.
  5. Schizophrenia in Film's icon

    Schizophrenia in Film

Favs/dislikes: 5:0. As someone who is a diagnosed schizophrenic, I wanted to make a (one day, hopefully) complete list of films depicting either the lives of individuals with schizophrenia (Shine; Adele H.), or films which explicitly depict individuals with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder. I'm sure you could read thousands of films as having a schizophrenic character (e.g. Christopher Robin in Winnie the Pooh), but this is for actual depictions of individuals with schizophrenia. Do note: Dissociative Identity Disorder (formerly Multiple Personality Disorder) is a completely separate diagnosis than schizophrenia. Here is the clinical definition of Schizophrenia: DSM-V Diagnostic Criteria of Schizophrenia 295.90 (F20.9) A. Two (or more) of the following, each present for a significant portion of time during a 1 -month period (or less if successfully treated). At least one of these must be (1 ), (2), or (3): 1. Delusions. 2. Hallucinations. 3. Disorganised speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence). 4. Grossly disorganised or catatonic behaviour. 5. Negative symptoms (i.e., diminished emotional expression or avolition). B. For a significant portion of the time since the onset of the disturbance, level of functioning in one or more major areas, such as work, interpersonal relations, or self-care, is markedly below the level achieved prior to the onset (or when the onset is in childhood or adolescence, there is a failure to achieve expected level of interpersonal, academic, or occupational functioning). C. Continuous signs of the disturbance persist for at least 6 months. This 6-month period must include at least 1 month of symptoms (or less if successfully treated) that meet Criterion A (i.e., active-phase symptoms) and may include periods of prodromal or residual symptoms. During these prodromal or residual periods, the signs of the disturbance may be manifested by only negative symptoms or by two or more symptoms listed in Criterion A present in an attenuated form (e.g., odd beliefs, unusual perceptual experiences). As this is a forever work in progress, all suggestions are welcome. Although I only plan on adding films which are actually available to watch - so no obscure unwatchable lost films please. Also note, films listed prior to Il colore dei suoi occhi (1991) are "reasonably confident" to have a schizo presence, and Il colore dei suoi occhi and after - I am less confident about there being a schizo aspect. If I ever finish this project, I want to turn it into a book: a schizo guide to schizo films. Films will be added and some might disappear as I watch them and make the final call of whether its schizo enough to make the cut. Again, this needs to be explicit, as I can read schizo traits in every single film - (Im currently developing a schizo reading of literature/film; currently working on a schizo reading of Star Trek Deep Space 9) as most humans have some of these qualities to them, but not to the extreme that schizo folks suffer with. Unless you know the torture of having no control over reality - you won't know why its important to have (positive) representation - so that maybe one day you too can feel the agony of existence as a schizo person - through the medium of film - and maybe then, hopefully one day, we can be celebrated for our divine perspective - for we know experiences that the rest of humanity can only guess at. So I want film to be the basis of respect, even when the film approaches us with hatred. For we know that all too well - as most of us die by our own hand, or on the streets - wandering a world we don't understand, with reality itself being something you never take for granted. So be glad you don't have our experience - for you will know that reality itself is sacred. Do note: -Everything prior to 15 Park Ave has been personally vetted and approved by me to be media with schizophrenia -This is primarily a list of ALL possibilities - so some titles may be removed if, after scrutiny, I find they don't contain schizophrenia. I have two companion lists to this one: 1) Schizophrenia in Film that I have personally vetted and approved. https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/schizophrenia+in+film+personally+vetted/minkin/ 2) Replications of psychosis in film - aka films that reproduce the experience of psychosis (hallucinations / delusions / disorganized speech) https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/films+which+replicate+psychosis/minkin/
  6. James A. FitzPatrick Traveltalks's icon

    James A. FitzPatrick Traveltalks

Favs/dislikes: 4:0. James A. FitzPatrick's condescending journey around the world . Although quite hokey and often terribly racist ("Those natives have no understanding of a higher power," Australia is a "White Man's Paradise"), these shorts provide priceless glimpses of a world long past (especially his Pre-WWII films). It is amazing to see the rapid modernization that has taken place within such a short span of the 20th century. Although he constantly hammers in the superiority of the USA, FitzPatrick is always reluctant to leave his destination - and often it isn't hard to see why!
  7. Badmovies.org - Every Review's icon

    Badmovies.org - Every Review

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. A website to the detriment of good film The goal of any movie is to entertain. This might sound strange, but who cares if a movie is poorly acted and filled with ridiculous special effects? What matters is if the movie keeps you entertained. The site's whole reason for being is to celebrate the quirky films that I find so enjoyable. Well, most of them are enjoyable. Some of the movies I watch cause me quite a bit of pain, but I love them anyway. Since we always hurt the ones we love, I will assume that the movies are loving me right back. Not on IMDB: The Curse of Count Chocula (2001) MALEORVS (1990) Rock'n With Satan (2002) Tales Til the End (1996) Terror on the Wind (1999)
  8. Films which Replicate Psychosis's icon

    Films which Replicate Psychosis

Favs/dislikes: 3:0. Psychosis is a break from reality. It can take the form of audio or visual hallucinations, or delusions (believing things that aren't true... not in a "haha the world is flat" but more of a "I am Jesus reborn" sort of thinking). Psychosis is a primary hallmark of schizophrenia, but may also be present in certain cases of bipolar disorder or depression. A true psychotic break / episode is (at least for me) a terrifying experience, where you're not sure what is real or not - as you enter into a waking dream state where there's basically any rules to reality. Like thinking the walls are spying on you whilst shadow figures are surrounding you. It can feel just like a horror movie at times - that you're living. If you're curious to experience this yourself - then most "normal" folks are capable of experiencing psychosis after prolonged sleep deprivation -Usually after 24 hours - you'll at least get some smaller hallucinations (entering psychosis may take up to 72 hours of sleep deprivation though). This list will hopefully serve as a guide to films which reproduce the experience of psychosis - to give the rest of you a glimpse into the world which some of us live in 24/7. There will be an emphasis on paranoia and hallucinations. I expect there'll be a large number of horror movies, or duplicates from my other schizophrenia list project: https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/schizophrenia+in+film/minkin/ All suggestions are welcome and will be added, but I am the brewmeister of the list, so all films will receive final vetting from me (or my team if I eventually get a group of us going). If you would like an explanation as to why a movie is on this list, then please see the "notes" on this list on Letterboxd: https://letterboxd.com/minkin/list/films-which-replicate-psychosis/ Note: everything from Bug after in the list has not been vetted by me yet, so don't treat those as canon.

    Charles and Ray Eames Filmography

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. Wife and husband artists, Ray and Charles Eames were an artistic team who worked in multiple mediums, and are most famous for the furniture they designed. They also happened to be quite prolific with their film output as well, as seen below. I found a source that said they created 125 films, but IMDB only lists 108, and I can't find a filmography more complete than that, so when/if more films show up on a better filmography, I will add to this list. Not listed on IMDB, but listed on the Eames' website: Babbage’s Calculating Machine or Difference Engine (1968) - ???? The Leading Edge (1966) Merlin and the Time Mobile (1978) Newton’s Method of Fluxions: An Introduction to Differential Calculus (1974) Polavision Vignettes: Bicycles (1977) A Report on the IBM Exhibition Center (590 Madison) (1978) Sumo Wrestler (1972) Time and Life International Building Lobby (1959)

    Minkin's 500 < 400 List Disaster Thing

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. List of films that I think are of better than mediocre quality, and are less than 400 checks! List is now RANKED! There's a lot more lists of films I can go through, and I've forgotten what year was the cutoff, but I just spent a few hours going through this and ranking everything, so I don't want to think about it for awhile, so I'll save that for 2000-never, thank you for coming to my TED talk, I will hand out snacks momentarily.
  13. Schizophrenia in Film (personally vetted)'s icon

    Schizophrenia in Film (personally vetted)

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. This is the companion list to the main "search and dump" list: https://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/schizophrenia+in+film+not+personally+vetted+list/minkin/ This is a list of films that I have personally reviewed and have found sufficient "evidence" to determine that they pass muster and contain a schizophrenic character. This is of course extremely difficult to do, as a non-professional + being unable to ask the character questions: "have your symptoms persisted for six months or longer?" - So these are all determinations that I can make with the available evidence. It is possible (I know as I have been doing so for six+ months) to read a schizo character or element into every single film. As a result, this list is only for films that have someone who meets the clinical definition of schizophrenia, which means they must meet TWO of the primary symptoms. The only exception is if the movie outright calls them schizophrenic, or if the film is about some historical figure who does indeed have schizophrenia. But this is all case-by-case - and as someone who thought they were God, I am the god of this list and will make the final calls, even in cases that are extremely borderline. I will try to be fair, but also be inclusive of many different perspectives. If you get 1000 schizophrenic folks in a room, you'll get 1,000 different ways that symptoms manifest. So something may or may not resonate with me, that will be truer for someone else. 3. Disorganized speech (e.g., frequent derailment or incoherence). 4. Grossly disorganized or catatonic behavior. The real kicker here is the 6 month period - as most films are just a slice of life and not indicating that these have been ongoing issues. I am perhaps most flexible on the time element - as its going to be extremely difficult to pin this down for most all cases. I will probably ignore the time issue altogether - as its impossible to know whether someone is experiencing a "brief psychotic episode" vs actually has schizophrenia - and I'd far rather be more inclusive of even the brief episodes, then simply stick to the longterm clinical definition. But if you disagree with this assertion, then please do let me know (message me for any reason). If a character meets two of those, I will lean towards inclusion. If its a movie about a kid who talks to dogs, the kid will have to have one of the other symptoms as well. This is all subject to change, and if you disagree with my ruling - then please do message me and make your case - as I am 100% flexible on these things - but I've usually argued about it with myself for over an hour, so I'll usually have some solid evidence to back it up. The only other problem I might face in this is when psychosis is due to either drug use or delirium (usually alcohol withdrawl). I will keep these issues in mind (and have already done so, See: Lost in a Harem (1944)) - but I will know that that is yet another issue hanging over the head of this project that I must be aware of - as both can very easily mimic the schizo experience.
