  2. Top 25 British War Films's icon

    Top 25 British War Films

Favs/dislikes: 2:0. "We could argue all day about the definition of a British War Film and what the best means but for this entirely unscientific list, the definition of a British War Film is one that is largely British in character. They may have been directed by non-British directors, have non-British actors and may even have been made in Hollywood or elsewhere, but they retain that element of Britishness that we all understand. So no Das Boot, Saving Private Ryan, Apocalypse Now or other such great films. The judging criteria do not include historical accuracy, whether the correct buttons and rank insignia were worn, or whether the film is a ‘visceral and worthy portrayal of the realities of war’ or some other such artsy bollocks, instead, it is simply enjoyability for a wet Sunday afternoon in. So, it is not a list for the film buff, historian or the yoghurt-weaving wheatgrass smoothy types for them to bemoan the inhumanity and pointlessness of war. Most of these have a back story that is as good as, if not better, that the film." https://www.thinkdefence.co.uk/top-25-british-war-films/

Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Annotated

Favs/dislikes: 5:0. This is not a complete recounting of every single pop culture reference in Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood. To claim as much would be hubris. No, this is simply the best The A.V. Club could do after two back-to-back viewings of Quentin Tarantino’s latest, the second of which was devoted wholly to noting every movie poster, real-life character, radio ad, and name drop we could catch. https://film.avclub.com/once-upon-a-time-in-hollywood-annotated-1836793225 Plus (26-34) films from Quentin Tarantino Present the Swinging Sixties: https://deadline.com/2019/07/quentin-tarantino-sony-tv-once-upon-a-time-in-hollywood-1202646569/ (35-42) 10 Essential Films to Watch after Once Upon a Time... in Hollywood: https://www.bfi.org.uk/news-opinion/news-bfi/lists/10-essential-films-to-watch-after-once-upon-time-hollywood

    Last Night in Soho

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. https://www.indiewire.com/gallery/last-night-in-soho-edgar-wright-films-inspiration/beat-girl/ Edgar Wright: These are 25 films from the 1960s that either somewhat inspired the seed of the idea for “Last Night in Soho” or that I watched during the development and writing of the movie. They cover dramas, horrors, psychological thrillers, and some documentaries (faked or otherwise) that I watched or re-watched as to immerse myself in the period of the time. Believe it or not, this is still an incomplete list, as I watched many, many more, but these 25 films comprise some that I shared with the cast and the crew, if they needed any further inspiration beyond the script in terms of colour, costume and hair, performance style, or just the glorious time capsule photography of London as it was back then.
  6. BFI Flipside with extras's icon

    BFI Flipside with extras

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. BFI Flipside is dedicated to rediscovering cult British films, reclaiming a space for forgotten British films and filmmakers who would otherwise be in danger of disappearing from our screens forever.
  7. Aspects – My Genre's icon

    Aspects – My Genre

Favs/dislikes: 1:0. Aspects are a British rap group from Bristol, SW England. This list contains every film referenced in their 2001 track My Genre.
