Surprised that Bresson isn't better represented but it is a very strong list.

Mostly terrific stuff, though I'm with Timec in wondering how Moonfleet makes the cut. I understand the love for mise en scene but surely there's several hundred movies with equal direction, yet much better scripts... Ditto Johnny Guitar. This list did get me to finally watch "The Party," though, for which I'm grateful.

It's one of the best lists around. Hilarious that some are calling it pretentious -- yeah, because Rio Bravo and Freaks are such pretentious movies, oh dear.

"Pretentious"?

How is it "pretentious"?

Well, most of these are great films, so I don't think "pretentious" is a particularly accurate label for it. I do, however, seriously question the inclusion of "Moonfleet."

Not a bad list, but pretty pretentious.

Glad you pointed that out, MMAlpha. The Demy film seems a more likely choice than the Fassbinder.

This list is great, I love it! I think this will be my first real goal.
