A lot of these movies are reaaaaally pushing the limit of "mystery", and some of them are outright laughable... Space Odyssey? Citizen Kane? The Green Mile? Those movies have just about nothing in common with any branch of mystery (traditional Golden Age mystery, hard-boiled crime stories, police procedurals, etc)
There is a bit of a gimmick to figuring out what is actually going on with Fanny and Alexander. I don't think it really fits the mystery genre, but there is a mystery to unravel in the film.
