Did the formula suddenly change? Last I checked, I was missing 9 and now I'm missing 19, this list is a real moving target.
Edit: 8/29/16: Appears IMDB has added a new list for Bollywood movies, so the problem has resolved itself. (Not sure why my initial comment got downvoted. Didn't think I said anything upsetting.)
But dombrewer, if you look at the histories of the films you mention, some of them are only recent additions to the Top 250 (before this mass exodus, of course), and others were constantly in and out every week. Come and See is an example of the former, and La Grande Illusion the latter.
This fascinating site (which I love!) charts the history of all the Top 250 movies: http://took.nl/250/titles/index/page:1/sort:date_created/direction:desc
Interestingly, the only "new" movie to the list in this big change is A Fistful of Dollars! Everything else has been on the list before, and they'll continue to rise and fall, and maybe eventually be replaced with some of the ones you mentioned. But it's a fluctuating list, so I'm not too upset. Not nearly as upset as I was when the AFI revised their Top 100 movies list!
The proper place to express your opinion of this change is IMDb (since they're the ones who made the change). Specifically this thread on their message boards.
In light of the new changes, does anyone have a current official Top 500 they are willing to share? Would love to compare it to the old one and see how much it got shaken up between 250 and 500.
Absolutely awful news. The list is now highly bias against silent and foreign films. And anything which isn't already in the canon never has a chance of making the list
I'm really confused by a lot of comments I see here. I've seen at least 10 Indian films now, and all are really good, some are fantastic. Why be small-minded? Some are on Netflix, others you can get cheapish on Amazon on DVD, so why wouldn't you? I've seen 164 titles on the list now, and I have no reason to think I won't complete the list.
As many have correctly stated, this list isn't every film you should ever watch, but it's a great intro to so many genres. I've watched army films and westerns (despite previously not being a fan), French films, arty films, Iranian dramas, Italian comedies and new Zealander fantasies, all because of this list. Even 3 Idiots, which if you ignore all the lazy anti-Indian comments on here, was a brilliant film. It showed a different way of storytelling, different cultures but I loved it. I'm not going to become a bollywood addict now, but I'm so glad I gave it a chance. And if I was Indian, I'd point out the 3/4 average-ish american films that get on this list every summer before dropping out of sight. Less accusations of a mafia, more just a film finding its place in the world. Chill out and watch some more movies please.

icheckmovies should change the description of this IMDB list to read "this is a list by and for the Indian people".KatForsyth

Both Kusturica back in the list at the same time. The mind wonders:-)bathkuyp
In my opinion the aspect of recurrence should weigh much heavier. A list like this http://www.icheckmovies.com/lists/imdb+top250+full+recurrence/mikegr/ translated into a top 250 would satisfy most enthusiasts.greenhorg
13% of all the movies I've watched get a favorite at icheck. 7% get a dislike. But I've favorited 35% of the movies on the IMDb 250 list, and disliked only 2%.
For comparison, I've favorited 20% of the icheck top 250 (that I've seen), and disliked 6%.
So I could say the IMDb 250 is a fairly decent list of films.
