Don't know why everyone is so high on this type of animation. It is so two-dimensional, and the stories are pretty predictable. That being said I was swept away by "Spirited Away" and glad that I have it in my collection.
Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind predates Studio Ghibli, even though it was made by Miyazaki and Takahata. It came out in 84, a year before Studio Ghibli was founded.
