Have to watch it again. Wasn't really keen on it the first time, probably because it was so darn slow and I didn't understand it, but the effects and the music were incredible!

See it in a theater if you possibly can. A completely different (and far better) experience.

Just watched this movie for the first time. All in one sitting and without falling asleep. That said i found it a stunning movie. But I'm not sure if I'll ever watch it again. Even though i might not completely understand it.

Friggin' masterpiece. I will admit to not truly liking this when I saw this for the first time in the seventh grade, but every subsequent viewing every few years only serves to increase my appreciation of this exhibition of pure cinematic excellence. With each view, I grow to love the opening Dawn of Man sequence even more, for there are more ideas in that opening salvo than in the top ten box office winners of the past ten years combined. And it is bookended perfectly with Bowman's evolution into the Star Child. High or sober, this is one cinematic experience that absolutely NEEDS to be ingested on the biggest screen possible.

I made sure to read the book before (finally) watching this. The book is an easy and wonderful read. Quite special. Everything is clearly described in the book, parts of it being quite different to the movie and more entertaining. It is just too difficult to portray the meaning of the end sequence in the movie. I recommend you read it either before or after watching this.

I find this movie the hardest to rate, because I'm pretty sure I'll give it a much higher number when my movie taste matures... So many things I still need to understand about this movie.

Slow moving, stunning visual effects, but ultimately a fairly boring movie.

Kubrick was truly a cinematic genius. 2001 is one of the prime examples on why movies are one of the most unique artforms we humans have ever created. It demonstrates that cinema is much more than just a simple narrative, it's also an experience!

Wow! Between this and 8 1/2 for the title of most justifiably hyped and otherworldly film experiences ever. Dr strangelove and Barry Lyndon you"ll just have to battle for Second in the Kubricks.
