Stephen Chbosky should stick to writing.

I'm not gonna be "that" person who would point out that the book was better than the movie, because the two are entirely different medium. There is a delineation on a movie based on a book, and a movie adaptation of a book and the clear test is whether the movie stood out on its own, regardless of the book's glory. In this aspect, "Perks" the movie is just that--a movie adaptation. It was charming, but not so far as having its own to be able to transcend the book (just how Fincher's Fight Club successfully overshone Palahniuk's).

There are, of course, redeeming points--there's Ezra Miller who more than brought life to his character, and maybe to the entire movie; his story was at times more poignant than the lead's, mainly because of Ezra Miller, or perhaps I was a gay man in another lifetime. The soundtrack was nice, but that is almost typical of coming-of-age films. And yes, there's the ubiquitous highschool plotline which I think anybody will be able to relate to and which makes this movie adaptation passable and easily likeable, despite lacking the awkwardness and the loneliness and the heart and warmth that the book gave.

I'd tell you guys to read the book, but I'm not gonna be "that" person.

To me it was beautiful, because it made me realise the small moments of life and the acting was amazing in parts.

Magical. Beginning with the marvelous soundtrack (that just feels like it was made on purpose for the movie), a beautiful cinematography, mashed with two of the top young actors in the world (Ezra Miller and Emma Watson), this is just a magical experience. I'm sure, a couple of months removed from watching it, that this is just the quin essential Teen Movie, one that you'll watch 30 years from now and feel like it was made to be there all along: just like your first kiss.

Truly beautiful. It made feel either sad and happy at the same time. This movie is very special. Loved it.
quote:
And there are people who forget what it's like to be 16 when they turn 17. I know these will all be stories someday. And our pictures will become old photographs. We'll all become somebody's mom or dad. But right now these moments are not stories. This is happening, I can see it. This one moment when you know you're not a sad story. You are alive, and you stand up and see the lights on the buildings and everything that makes you wonder. And you're listening to that song and that drive with the people you love most in this world. And in this moment I swear, we are infinite.

This is a great coming of age movie and made me yearn to be young again.

Unfortunate Synopsis

Terrible portrayal of an introvert, reinforcing the stereotype that if someone isn't expressive then there is something "wrong" with them and that they are likely to do harm to themselves and to others. It leaves viewers thinking the introverts of the world are "struggling" if they don't break out of their shell and play the extrovert's game.

If you really want to show the perks of being a wallflower, portray the introvert coming out ahead by thoughtful contemplation, a diligent work style and a strong moral compass while the loud and boastful extrovert jumps headstrong into mistakes. Then show the extrovert scratching his head in bewilderment at how his overconfidence was his own demise.

was a good adaptation of the book, actors were what i imagined, except for emma watson. I don't hate her, I just don't think she does accents very well. apart from that, she is great at capturing the required emotions which still makes her a good actress.

I've had a long time crush on Logan Lerman, so when my friend invited to me to see it I really had no expectations for it. Wow I was completely blown away. Fantastic film. I bought the book that night, saw the movie again, and bought it the day it came out. I would definitely recommend.

Good performances but they could have done more with the material. A little slow at times and not exactly ground breaking as the typical coming of age story.

Absolutely amazing, really took me by surprise.
The start was a bit slow and sometimes a bit boring, but it got a lot better very quickly. Great second half and what an amazing end!
