5 Days of War (2011)

A Dutch journalist, a cameraman, was killed by a Russian cluster bomb in the actual Five-Day War in 2008 that inspired this movie.

Since it is dedicated to fallen journalists, I expected a lot more out of it. It's not a very good movie on its own and it's downright disappointing if you expect it to shed some real light on the actual conflict, or the life of war reporters. 10 years 5 months ago

The first half of August 2008, I was in Ukraine. I didn't follow any news so I was a bit confused when citizens told me they were afraid of getting sucked into a war. Only on my way home did someone tell me the full story (in a very interesting way, I might add). The threat was very serious, so I challenge the thoughts of this being propaganda.

On the other hand, I did think the movie was awful. My personal interpretation was that it perhaps came too close to my personal experiences, but the below comments suggest otherwise. I was about to turn the movie off during the scene with the old lady in the river (I won't go into the details). But the film makers apparently also were not able to properly choose between a graphic war movie or a terribly standard story of a traumatized hero who is driven by the loss of his loved one... 12 years 6 months ago
