the scenes shot the first night are among the most beautiful i have ever seen. the plains and hills, and then the shots in the village.dombrewer
So bizarre when people criticise a film like this for "nothing happening" - did you watch the film? Did you miss theEylemBasakEkinci
An overnight search for a missing body yields a quietly poignant autopsy on the human condition in “Once Upon a Time in Anatolia.” Nuri Bilge Ceylan’s somber, rigorous new feature is a meditative procedural that expands what would normally consume the first five minutes of a “Law & Order” episode into a slow-moving, nearly three-hour portrait of men at work, taking stock of the enormous social and moral burdens they bear. Beautifully crafted, ultra-rarefied pic won’t expand the audience for the Turkish auteur’s work, though festgoers will again appreciate Ceylan’s marvelous eye and surprising reserves of humor.stexdo
The directing and the lighting is outstanding. I really liked most of the actors and found it a carefully made movie. Recommended.charliezy
Plain beautiful !As much as I adore NBC 's work up until now, he really finds a way to add something on top of it with every project.
Loved it...

Being Ceylan's probably most challenging and least accessible movie to date, I thoroughly enjoyed this. Despite the fact that I feel Ceylan's signature images of photorgasmic quality was somewhat missing.Louis Mazzini
Absolutley magnificent!DerekFME
I did feel at first the film was rather boring. But then it gradually drew me into the lives of the characters. The first half of the film was a struggle to get through though. I thoroughly enjoyed the Doctor's skeptical mind.SpeedyDG
Jeez. Overreact much? That comment was tongue in cheek. I haven't seen the other Turkish mafia films, but I really liked this one. And the "mafia" refers to the fact that no one has seen those films outside of Turkey. So no, Forrest Gump, the second most seen film on this site is not on a bunch of lists because of a mafia.anne_f_
Great film, only boring inasmuch as there are no car chases and gunfights (and for the avoidance of doubt, that means not boring!).ansver
This is the best NBC's movie ever watched. I raise my hat to him.ozgungenc
Best of NBC. I hope it can make it to the final 5 in Oscars.deckard.
the only movie of nbc that is worth watching (the others are all self indulgent plastic drivels) and it is one of the best movies of turkish cinema.ChrisReynolds
Interesting drama with impressive psychological depth and some excellent acting. It captures the daily grind of police procedure well. Unfortunately, even with the languid pacing, this felt far too long. I think the problem was mainly in the first half, possibly due to a combination of scripting and editing, because afterhyvaa
