This is a film I'll think about for weeks. I agree that it's 'slow' but I think I'd rather call it "contemplatively paced". It's a film that deals sparingly with religion, yet feels like a religious experience. I know, pretentious, right? Well, it's a flick I'm finding hard to pin down and I feel the need to grasp at the conceptual ether for answers.

Apocalypse Now seems to carry the same mood.

I love this film - it totally opened my eyes to what cinema can do. It's got to be one of the best films ever made. It's cheaply made, badly dubbed and utterly bonkers but it's just brilliant. The last scene with Kinski on the raft with his "subjects" would be hard to top for the best end to a film ever.

This film requires multiple viewing before you can understand how perfect it's universe is. Simple yet powerful and with a very different ending. I really witnessed the wrath of God...

This film changed my life, before I saw this I thought 'alternative cinema' was Fight Club and The Matrix - then I had Herzog and Kinski crawling into my brain with bright, deranged eyes!
A masterpiece.

I'm glad to get to know artists like Werner Herzog. Cinema has a lot of masterpieces that no one cares about.

I don't see where this movie is slow or not normal. What I think is that this is definetely one of the best movies I've seen and that's enough for me. I'll never forget Kinski performance, especially when he looks at the camera like he was talking to the spectactor. And that ending, just wow.

While not the best movie ever made and truly not even top 10 material, it's a helluva great watch nonetheless. It's the very definition of a cult film. It's one of those movies you prolly wouldn't have gone out of your way to see when it was released, but after years of brewing in obscurity, it has finally reached its full potential.

This movie was obviously a bit too much to chew for the young Werner Herzog, but he did the best he could and made the movie have this very unique, near document look to it. This is mostly due to the incompetent extras that keep glancing at the camera every now and then, and of course the absolutely eerie scene by the great Klaus Kinski.

Talking about Kinski, reading more about the man, and knowing what an absolute nightmare the whole filming was, it's pretty amazing how well the movie turned out, all the troubles seem to almost complement the tone of the movie. There's also the debacle about the audio of the movie. Since it was filmed in english, but due to inferior quality, it was first dubbed German, and then English, both missing Kinski himself due to payment disagreements. Though the voice actor for the German version is damn close to the man himself.

Every now and then it looks like the movie is going nowhere, only to drop some true greatness on to you. Kinski is the main force behind the film, everything from his absolutely stunning crooked stance, to the eerily calm way he delivers his lines is damn near perfect. And the ending... Oh man. Journey into madness at its finest.

Favorite performance: Werner Herzog's hand.

I don't see any special quality in this movie, maybe I missed it. The camera work isn't that great, the dialogues (I know German) are mediocre at best and the conflicts and they way they are acted out, did not impress me in any way.

A masterpiece. Definitely not too slow. And if someone thinks this is "too different" I'd hate to see what they thought of some of the truly strange films that are out there (some of them very good, and some of them definitely not.) This is pretty normal compared to a lot of other films.
