A thriller sci fi kicked up a notch, Aliens is the complete package. The storyline of Newt and Ripley, the nerve - wracking beats that play during an xenomorph encounter, and the duel between Ripley and the Queen are what make it a moviegoers' delight. But I still find that Alien is better.
[7/10] Another sequel which isn't really better than the original, even though it's bigger and more action packed. James Cameron focused more on the sudden scares and big action sequences at the expense of the slow building tension, which was present in the original Alien thanks to Ridley Scott.
However, the true star of the movie is Sigourney Weaver. Her performance in Alien and Aliens has been both strong and powerful throughout the series. Officially speaking, like Arnold Schwarzenegger has his Terminator franchise and Sylvester Stallone has his Rocky franchise, Sigourney Weaver has a strong influence over the Alien franchise. No Alien franchise could be complete without her in the leading role. [7/10]
I loved this film so so so so so so much! It was just amazing, the cast is fantastic, especially Bill Paxton and Michael Biehn. "Game over man, Game over!" :D
Agree with timothysimon's points. That being said, the action sequences are good, if somewhat predictable, in that the good guys always seem to find increasingly implausible ways out of situations.
Excellent special effects that holds up well even today, but not as good as the first Alien. I watched the Special Edition cut which went too long....I'll rewatch the theatrical cut which might be better. Some of the scenes are unintentionally funny (any scene with Hudson is indicative of that).
Seen for the first time in 2011 (I know shame on me) and I must say the special effects and the set are fascinating! It has already been said that the cast was pretty horrible, but the overall technical execution was great.
I totally agree with most comments here that this one is not nearly as good as its predecessor. It's gripping and entertaining, but the first one is just brilliant.
I've heard it said that this movie is better than its predecessor. I tremendously disagree... but then again, I'm not a big fan of James Cameron, with the exception of T2 (which in fact was better than the first)... I dunno... maybe it was all of the added footage in the special edition, but it seemed really plodding... and didn't feel half as good as it should have been; I concur with foxdanger's rating.
Interesting that even though it is a sequel it changes genres from horror (Alien) to a well-tuned horror/action hybrid (Aliens). Because of that, it makes it slightly more complicated to stack up against its predecessor. Both movies attempt to be different things. The action is great and I think focuses on it because we know Xenomorphs at this point, some of that suspense is understandably lost since the original. Sigourney shines as always and is a true paragon of strong women in cinema that has not only stood the test of time, but continued to shine brighter as the years tick by.
This film begins with a lot of crap. Terrible cast, stereotypical characters, and trashy script. The endings, actually so good, it saved James Cameron ass. Bravo.

Did the math, and I do believe, on a purely technical level, "Get away from her you, bitch!" does in fact pass the Bechdel test.Dieguito
Very very good, but I've preferred the first one, more suspense, less action..Jok3r
