Really well done. A minimalist story elevated by great performances, a strong emotional core, and above all else, absolutely stunning cinematography. There are scenes that I want to freeze and hang on my wall.
Attended a Chicago test screening. Very different kind of movie, will be a hard sell as it has no celebrities, subtitled in English with an Ice Age-era language, and is primarily a tale of a boy and wolf attempting to survive the tundra of what would become Europe 20,000 years ago. Very well made, very simple and ultimately moving. If it comes to your town in March, check it out. Pre-teens and older will enjoy it--parents should note that, although not a violent movie it does contain some scenes of intense peril.
A very good attempt on illustrating Upper Paleolithic lifestyle. The inclusion of knapping stone and the allusion to rock art, using real techniques, shows that there was some research done. So it is with disapointment that I see a sabre-toothed cat, native to the American continent and easily replaceable with a cave lion, and megalithic structures (stone totems) that perpetuate myths about the ice age. Oh, and the bison hunting scene is another example. Otherwise, cool artistic liberties taken: from clothes to ornaments to tents and social interactions.
Non lo consiglio per la presenza sul set di animali non umani in condizioni di stress. Perché il lupo ringhia? Perché è stato addestrato a ringhiare? Come è stato addestrato?
Inoltre è stato rappresentato un caso di collaborazione/sudditanza tra uomo e lupo che sarebbe avvenuto in pochi mesi. Viene, infine, rappresentata come una sorta di amicizia, cosa ben lontana dalla realtà, come purtroppo sappiamo bene.

6+/10Beautiful, but I miss some more mammuts close up and to see more than the shadow of the sabretoothed tigre!
