Another authentic and 'real' war movie from Hollywood, with Bradley Cooper being the perfect choice for the lead sniper's role.

Bradley Cooper was sort of in the Silver Linings Playbook groove again here, as the patriotic sniper who finds it tough to be normal in his everyday life and with family. Initially he finds life very pointless as just a cowboy, and enrolls for military service as he feels he can make a difference and not just sit and watch. Later, he is increasingly consumed by life as a sniper.

The film has some gripping war scenes shot very well with the required finesse and production values. Fizzles out towards the end, and finishes on a sad and patriotic note.

We're made to believe that there were terrorists in Iraq before the US invasion. Good fairy fake.

I actually think this is some of Eastwood's better recent work as a director, and although Cooper is an actor I often give a hard time for being over-rated I felt he was quite good in this role. American Sniper is a realistic and compelling modern war film, however I don't think it departs enough from what a movie like The Hurt Locker did (nor is it as gritty and intense) to stand alone as a great modern war film.

Funny how this movie is having lot of attention of the academy, and last year the bio/war movie Lone Survivor it was not given the love that it deserved.

What?

Cooper is great but I don´t know if it was oscar nomination worthy.

Unfortunate Synopsis

Siena Miller's character is kind of a complete bitch in this movie. I wanted to feel for the military wife story line, but she was just such an unlikable character throughout the whole movie.

A lot of people are criticizing this movie because of the pro-war, typical american ideologies. I don't think that makes it a bad movie. I'm definitely against war, but Chis Kyle wasn't and his story is very interesting. If Clint Eastwood would have approached his story from a different perspective, i think it would have been less genuine.

There are people with different ideals, so suck it up.

Furthermore, even the pro-war aspects in this movie weren't nearly as bad as i thought they would be. It is true that the islamic people aren't very likable in this movie, but it's not about the ethics of war, or the islamic beliefs, but about Chris Kyle, and shit like this happened and is still happening. I have never once in this movie felt like Clint Eastwood was purposely trying to make the islam look bad. If you aren't easily influenced or offended, you should be able to enjoy it.

I can't believe so many people are talking about the cinematography and stuff like that and missing the main issue of this movie. It might be pro-america or whatever, but it is the most blatantly racist film made this decade. The film does in no way help dispel the horrible American-created myth that terrorists groups represents Islam as a whole.

This movie makes the situation of Muslims in North-America WORSE! They are already labeled as terrorists before even entering the country. The only "nice" Muslim we see in the movie ends up being evil and betraying the main character.

People will keep saying how good Bradley Cooper was in this film or how good Tarantino's directing was; the fact remains that a movie so blatantly pro-war and islamophobic should NOT be nominated for awards! It is completely racist and rude to people who have a hard enough time going through life without being verbally and physically abused by the citizens in the country in which they took refuge.

Good but not great Clint Eastwood War drama that simply doesn't feel like an Eastwood movie. It's not Pro or Anti war movie but a straight forward telling of the life at war and at home of a very lethal sniper. Ok movie but felt distant and a bit cold.
