Cheesy 3D-effects aside, this is mostly worth watching for some early Hicks clips and some insightful interviews with his friends. It feels really stilted and slow in the beginning, mostly relying on illustrational photos where characters are moving about awkwardly thanks to the "3D-effect". It picks up pace midway and the last half is very funny and insightful. 13 years 5 months ago

I'm scratching my head over some of the invective leveled against Hicks here:

deadbeat - no idea where this comes from
    self-righteous - I'll give you "preachy"
bitter - sure, but you have to really hate the guy to reduce his life's conflicts down to this
angry - absolutely, and the fact that you would hold this against him proves you missed his entire point about passion
not funny - pretty sure you're in the minority here, even for your generation

As for the documentary itself, I say it has a lot to offer. Even fans of Hicks (myself included) can find stuff they haven't seen elsewhere. It's a good companion piece to "It's Just a Ride".

A poorly-made documentary about an angry, bitter, self-righteous deadbeat. 12 years 7 months ago
