It felt like I missed three birthdays during the time spent watching that extended dance sequence at the end.zheller667
Not sure why it won all the awards. Seemed like a mostly average film. Too long and Gene Kelly was a little annoying. My issue is that there wasn't a good story to connect the songs. Each song came out of nowhere and with little context. Lavishly produced, no doubt, but I had a hard time caring about what was happening. Fairly boring film.Shlepa
Sometimes brilliant, always watchable, but not interestingLarsC
It's like watching a Gershwin/Kelly showreel. I wish they'd made a movie instead.estiedelruth
Some highs, some lows. Overall, not as boring as other movies but not particularly gripping either. If you're looking for dance sequences then this is the movie for you.juanittomx
If Gene Kelly smiles, I smile :)whambeat
Though the love interests of Gene Kelly confuse me in which he chooses, this movie is still great, ajoy to watch. Ira and George Gershwin's classic score makes the movie so much enjoyable.Siskoid
An American in Paris sets the bar very high when it comes to dance numbers (it inspired, for example, the end sequence of La-La Land which is a fraction as bold) - Gene Kelly always looking for the next challenge in terms of physicality - and the film's exuberance excuses a lot of its excesses. It is a very indulgent film when I reflect on things like Oscar Levant's big concert or how the final number occasionally loses the plot. While filled with watchable actors and fun numbers, I'm not that engrossed by the very simple love story it tells, especially with how thin the psychology is. Kelly is prideful, in love, heartbroken, but there are no real clues as to why he falls for Leslie Caron's character, and though she's a great dancer, giving her absolutely no songs to sing cripples her claim at some kind of interiority. So a grand entertainment on the basis of spectacle, but it's no Singin' in the Rain, or even It's Always Fair Weather, in my book. Those films had more to say.mondovertigo
Not as good as I hoped, loved the scenes with Oscar Levant though.Warrison
Not enough actual story here to make up an episode of friends.chryzsh

Some impressive dance moves but other than that pretty uninteresting. How did this win BP?rafalopez2008

Really boring and way too much dancing. I thought it was a musical...ViniciusOG
