I can’t tell if my favorite scene was when the children’s cancer ward burns down while Ave Maria is playing and slow motion pigs and chimps are running around

Or when Babe saves the life of a dog strangling gruesomely to his death while an angelic choir sings, establishing him as a Christ the redeemer figure within the narrative and becomes the animal messiah.

I can't tell.

Against the expectations of an extremely low IMDB score ( anything lower than a 6 really shouldn't be devoting any time to) I was astonished at how enjoyable it was. It's expertly made, the animal performances and effects are great, and there's a real subversive wit in the script and background details of the city. It seems to me this is a film that missed its target audience and was sorely misunderstood at the time, perhaps by those just expecting a light, carbon copy of the first film. It's darker, yes, and surreal, but what else would you expect from the director of the Mad Max films? If you like the strange fantasies of Jean Pierre Jeunet this is one to catch.

Definitely not shit...I would go as far as saying it's one of the best sequels ever made.

Shame they couldn't figure out a way to end the movie. That descent into slapstick was unforgivable.

I love the "Thank the Pig" scene. This was the hardest I've laughed at monkeys & dogs, ever.

Gene Siskel and Roger Ebert praised this movie so high it made me drool with anticipation. Siskel even rated it as the best movie of 1998. They both gave it a top score and it was featured in the New Cult Canon list. The day the DVD dropped into my mailbox I did not waste much time flinging it into the DVD player and make myself comfortable with a soda and some snacks. I like children's movies if they are of sufficent high quality. I've seen the 30 first Disney movies during the last year with much enjoyment and treasure movies such as "How to Train Your Dragon" and "The Fantastic mr. Fox". I like watching Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck shorts from the 30's and 40's but THIS movie! It sucks big time. The plot is a mess, the hero himself is boring and the dialogue is dull. The movie is just a bundle of chaotic scenes with flat jokes and predictable developments. That's just my opinion, but I hope it balances out some of the praise.
