Disappointed… badly directed, written and edited. Great kids tough…

nothing really wrong with this movie, but perhaps i missed the point... how is this movie one of the best of 90's?

pretty easy to forget, imo.

Was it just me? Or did the backdrop of Iran look a whole lot like Southern California?

Reminiscent of Where is the Friend's House? in the best way. The children are both excellent and adorable.

Yeah - I suspected, after reading his profile, that Kunggi was an idiot. Then I found some more of his posts, and I no longer had any doubt.

Kunggi - I know a post as stupid as yours is hardly worth responding to, but, really, some of the best films of recent years have come from the Middle East. See: the films of Kiarostami, Ghobadi, Barmak, Panahi, Beizai, Makhmalbaf.

Also, it's pretty clear that you didn't understand the movie, so perhaps you should try again?

I'm suprised the troll hasn't come back seeing how people has thrown so much food around :D

Anyways: This was a really charming movie. Quite moving and certainly great. Yet to see a weak movie from Iran - but then I haven't seen too much.

woodke - Oh how I wish straight-to-DVD releases featured such solid filmmaking and such heart and compassion and heart. Unfortunately, such is not the case, and this is one of the best films of the 90s. And I say that as someone who has seen some 30 Iranian films, and dozens of films from other parts of the Middle East.

This was not what I expected. It's got a lot of good stuff going for it but you should know what you're in for. The back of the DVD box pitched this as a light-hearted family film full of hijinx, and it's...not that. It has some pretty grim depictions of a family living in poverty and all of the hardship that comes with that. The adults in the film are flawed, in a realistic way, which is a good thing, but also a hard thing. The film was very well shot and well edited, and like other commenters have stated, the child actors gave generally outstanding performances. I thought the tension was kind of flat until the last act, but the last act was pretty dang good! Tonally, though, this movie was pretty bleak most of the time. Life is hard when you're impoverished and this movie does not shy away from that.

One of the loveliest films I've ever seen. A film based on shoes, how great this is ? Nevertheless, The kids' performance was top.
