Don't underplay Kawashima. There's an article written by Imamura in the booklet with the blu-ray, where he complains Kawashima often didn't take his ideas on board and that he thought this film could be better. So it was certainly more Kawashima's film than Imamura's.
Very enjoyable film, anyhow. Frankie Sakai is great. 10 years 10 months ago -

Don't know if subs have appeared since Monty's post, but the UK label Masters of Cinema will be releasing this on Blu-ray next April. 11 years 4 months ago
