The best use of this 'collage' style filmmaking that i've seen yet, really complements the music!

An experimental film that is made of paint and scratches on the negative and is actually good!
The music is a well done 3 movement jazzy number, and the images complement the music perfectly and tell a story. This really shows up some of the other Brief Encounters stuff where paint and scratches have been randomly scrawled on a negative with no thought or care.

The creativity and wit of Norman McLaren never fails to impress me - he is one of the great artists of the cinema, and this is one of his best works.

And Jook - even McLaren's worst shorts are much better than the vast majority of existing things. At his best, he manages to create works of overwhelming beauty and imagination and emotional resonance that are completely unmatched in cinema.
