I'm in love. I'm utterly, hopelessly in love with this film.

Utterly incredible. So perfectly judged, beautifully written and well acted. Definitely one of the most sensitive films ever made about a relationship, and perfectly adaptable as an early example of a gay or 'forbidden love' story written as a heterosexual drama. Probably seems twee to a modern audience, but anyone aware of the effects of a conservative society or love should find resonance.

Absolutely not overrated. A stunningly beautiful picture with a simple theme on the surface but with a very interesting conception of space and the connections of the two spheres with two contrary concepts of love is simply awesome. Especially in the heartbreaking end, when one of these spheres is about to crumble and both protagonists are becoming totally aware of their situation, this film becomes a masterpiece.

Probably the only film I've ever seen that could rival Casablanca in terms of sheer passion and romantic depth. It may have even topped it.

I've liked the cinematography, David Lean was a great director.

I thought it was absolutely fantastic, and I'm not ordinarily into this type of film. And for an ending that we knew all along, it was still tremendously heart rending.

(removed by mod: please post in English)

quote:
FRED: You're a poetry addict. Help me over this, it's Keats: 'When I behold upon the night-starred face, huge cloudy symbols of a high...something', in seven letters.
LAURA: Romance, I think. Yes, I'm almost sure it is. 'Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance', it'll be in the Oxford Book of English Verse.
FRED: No, that's right, I'm certain. It fits with 'delirium' and 'Baluchistan'.

Trevor Howard in this movie reminds me of Michael Fassbender.

When Laura bursts out laughing, at home, in front of the fireplace - I think that's one of the best performances in cinema. I could watch it over and over.
