I think a lot of people today, including myself, don't seem to realize just how horrible slavery was. Most people who haven't studied history, and history of slavery in particular, really don't know the shocking and gruesome practice of chattel slavery. What this movie does is that it portrays slavery in a modern context, and that it still exists today, but in different forms and under new names.

The movie raises some interesting hypotheticals. For entertainment any history/civil war buff should check it out. The "commercials and movies" portrayals are utterly over the top ridiculous/campy for the movie to be taken seriously though.

This movie is preposterous, assuming the Confederacy would have prevailed is, in a sense, ethnocentric.
