Why so many negative comments? It was awesome and not nearly as boring and cliched as I expected. Kinda felt like Evil Dead.

Very bad. Some of the dumbest characters I have seen in any movie. They make the clowns in "Prometheus" look like masterminds. Only worth watching for the occasional moment of gore.

Eli Roth is certainly something else . . . Whatever that is, I don't know. Nevertheless I still found it to be enjoyable, despite the baffling ending.

I agree with Mutton. One of the best horror films I've ever seen. Love the atmosphere and the intensity and how the characters are so natural. I also remember being peed off with my dad when he went to see it at the cinema while I was at school, because we'd both been dying to see it and he didn't want to wait anymore :(

I think some people compared it to Braindead, Bad Taste and such.. I remember being disappointed.

As low-budget horror movies go…this is still pretty bad.

As one critic wrote, “Cabin Fever is what 28 Days Later would have looked like had it been made without style, subtlety, grunge-of-night video photography, or fashionable apocalyptic pretensions."

This film is hilarious. The reputation of this movie has certainly changed over time. It was perceived as terrible when it came out-- a "generic" early aughts low budget pseudo-slasher with stereotypical characters which brought nothing new to the table. Some acknowledged the humor as a tonally dissonant kink that didn't let us take any of this seriously... which... duh. But they thought it was unintentional somehow or part of a too cool for school ironic POV. Some years later-- even though it was championed by Tarantino and Peter Jackson-- some people started to turn this film into the type of cult classic guys watch to make fun of and laugh at how "bad" it is. The film's eccentricities (which it has plenty of) became clips snotty cinephiles could enjoy in YouTube-- smoking weed while chuckling at the karate feral child attacking the Seth Rogen doppelgänger. (Bert has got to be one of the most hateable guys ever put on screen).

Nowadays I think Eli Roth's style -hate it or not- and his subsequent critical assessment have redeemed Cabin Fever's reputation. It is clear to me that this film is much smarter than its dumb-ish script and ridiculous situations. First of all: it's basically a comedy. More than that-- it's a comedy with something to say. Every single character is so selfish and shut off from each other that they keep falling deeper and deeper into disease. Just look at how the underage booze kids react to Rider Strong near the end of the film: the same exact way the main group reacted to the hermit earlier. Or think about the hilarious "I made it!" scene where a character laughs off the death of his friends because he's still alive. Even the n-word gag that gets subverted at the end has got to do with the way people violently stick to their own. Now I'm not claiming the film is some kind of masterpiece or profound or something like that. But it's fun-- smart-- and short. Definitely worth your time.

The leg shaving scene is one of the most wince inducing things ever to hit cinema. However the film as a whole is a bit rubbish.
