I loved it. Although, it is open to interpretation, I found it a bit nostalgic. The silence worked for me on many levels. There is no particular definition of the mood because of that.

Dali apparantly told Cornell to stop making movies, and only do art. Based on this movie alone I am probably in agreement.

I understand there's probably SOME kind of experiment going on, but I'll be damned if I can get what that is. All I see is someone filming random stuff in a neighboorhood for 13 minutes really.

There is so little to say about this short. The film is silent, grainy and completely lifeless. Perhaps director Joseph Cornell was attempting to capture the essence of summer, but it never comes across. It appears to be a normal home video. One taken by someone who is still learning how to use it, and pointing it randomly at uninteresting things. The film was made to remember a house that was to be demolished. Cornell cherished things from the past and tried to preserve this house he treasured before it was gone forever. However, I got no sense of emotion from the film. It was completely void of life which seems to be in complete contrast of what he was going for.

I felt like the images themselves were beautiful, and sometimes the camera-work contained shots which were aesthetically pleasing, but overall I agree with BlueVoid on the point that the film-making seems relatively devoid of emotion.

Ghostly somewhat. On the house. But not on the people.

Word, Imps!

As Bluevoid sais, nothing of what the filmmakers probably wanted to show with the film, did'nt appear automatically. Therefore a failure. A low grade. Why so many experimental films in these short films toplists???
There are for example many great Swedish short films (yes, I am very subjective) with normal plot/synopsis that also would fit in these - in fact much better and worthier. But hey, too bad too many films on the web are the ones IMDb voters or TSPDB voters can vote on. Too few films with a plot/synopsis - sad actually!

Or maybe they should divide short film top lists into 2 different ones: Experimental art films vs. normal plot/synopsis films! (Y)
