Pretty offensive how closely the film stuck to the established Rocky story arc -- I really started groaning at the point the big fight was announced to be staged in Russia, preceded by a rehashed sequence with MiniCreed choosing to train in an austere, unconventional setting. Been there, done that. And the strangest note was how casually the script tossed away the moment with Creed
discovering his infant daughter could hear after a slammed door awoke her. That should have been a big dramatic moment, but it wasn't clear if the revelation even clicked in his mind. He just consoled the crying kid. Whoopee.
Also, Dolph Lundgren had by far the most interesting part (oops, that's a problem) yet received so little screen time.
Lesser sequel. You have a problem when you're not routing for the lead characters. The Drago father son storyline was much more interesting. Stallone is great in his "final" Rocky appearance but this movie shows again that rehashing the story from Rocky 2 and 4 without Rocky and Adrian gives different results. It was ok but nothing more. I have my doubts about Creed III

Worse than part one. The critics agree with me, not the audience (IMDb). Quite predictable and full of clichés. Music, as in Creed I, by Swedish Ludwig Göransson - who in 2019 won the Oscar for film music to another Hollywood movie (!).
Ranks amongst the worst movies I’ve ever seen. Easily. The love story, the fights, the father-son conflicts, and the sweet mother-in-law... it’s more than I can take.
If you've seen Rocky IV, you really do know where Creed II is going. Even if you haven't, I think its plot points are pretty familiar. That you expect certain things to happen doesn't mean it's boring though. I think this may be the first boxing movie I've ever seen in a theater, so I don't know if that's why the fighting sequences felt so visceral, but I was wincing all the way through them. As with the first Creed, it did a good job of making me understand the strategies involved so that it was more than a simple punch-up. Where the film forges its own way is in the personal stories. Creed is not Rocky, he's a very different fighter, and his story must be different. I especially liked how making his partner Bianca a singer actually pays off in the boxing story, and of course, Stallone continues to make Rocky a lovable lug in his old age. The big surprise is the Dragos, a toxic relationship that manages to draw the audience's sympathy and feel truthful. Something of a far cry from the robotic monster of the original film.
The trailers make this look like the inevitably mediocre sequel to the surprisingly strong previous film. Instead it's the miracle film that proves that sequels don't have to be dumb or even predictable. It follows the beats of a Rocky sequel but manages to do so in surprising and interesting ways all the while allowing the film to unfold and become a rather thoughtful and intense drama that happens to feature three boxing matches. The script is excellent and the direction is patient and methodical in ways I wish any and all sequels to beloved properties could be. This might be my second favorite Rocky film.
